"On the Moon, we have five thousand dimensions. Don't question it!"
Dangblastit!
I mispronounced it.
You limit God to only three dimensions?
My sentiments too.
It's like opening a gift from the Master and getting a surprise.
Blessed are they that believe that they are blessed.
Are you are (un)excited over this as I am?
Finally something that makes sense around here. :-)
There's a new one discovered every week now.
It's a good thing that our surroundings are real and NOT a math model. Otherwise evolution would have never happened.
Give me a break.
BUMP
Somewhere, at the end of the E8 calculation, I am sure the answer ultimately = 42.
ROTFL - thanks for the laugh, LW. I needed that.

You are partly correct. There happens a lot in the world mathematics and, only seldomly, the general public will get informed - and even less frequently, it will be excited (Can't remember the last time that happenend...)
Whether there is any "use" for the ideas in the "real world" is to be seen - but even if not: it's a great task and at least a brilliant work of art.
Is that you, Michio?
Nature doesn't leave structures, mathematicians create them. This is nearly pure cartesianism, modernism. Even art left this stuff behind a century ago.
I have read a great deal about St. Feynman and his life. Unquestionably a brilliant scientist...who was occasionally wrong. However, like many gifted people, he had quite the ego and seldom admitted mistakes.
I once gave a talk using a large poster that a graphics friend made for me of one of the Hubble photos. Mentioned that it was something like .01% of the universe and showed at least 10,000 different galaxies. (I forget the actual numbers - but it was something unbelievable like that).
I mentioned how in the Psalms and elsewhere God's power is discussed in terms of "who created the Heavens" and the countless stars in the sky, etc. And to me, the more we discover about the Universe, the "rules", etc. - it just makes me more awed by the power of the Creator. (And - if the article can use "Nature" - with a captial "N", I figure I can use a capital "C"!)
No, just old spunkets.
And yet He knows your small voice. Wow.
