Republican Rudy Giuliani is the most appealing presidential contender in the United States, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 31 per cent of respondents say they will definitely vote for the former New York City mayor if he runs for president in 2008.
Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is a close second with 30 per cent, followed by Democratic Illinois senator Barack Obama with 28 per cent, Republican Arizona senator John McCain with 21 per cent, and Democratic former North Carolina senator John Edwards with 20 per cent.
When asked which candidate they would definitely not support in the 2008 presidential ballot, 46 per cent of respondents mention Rodham Clinton. Edwards is second on the list with 39 per cent, followed by Obama with 37 per cent, McCain with 34 per cent, and Giuliani with 28 per cent.

Note that McCain is WAY behind Giuliani, Hillary and Obama.
ewwwwwwwwwwwwww.........
So, is Saturday your scheduled day for campaigning for the most liberal GOP presidential candidate EVER? Did areafiftyone get the day off today or something?
Likable everywhere but FR.
When's the last time FR liked a viable candidate.
It might have just been a New Hampshire poll, but Fox showed a poll tonight with McCain and Giuliani running neck and neck around 28-29%
The polls accurately reflect the attitude of voters considering the election is so close. LOL!
Maybe not on FR, but more and more conservatives, whose pedigrees cannot be called into question, ARE supporting Rudy.
State GOP lining up behind Giuliani. He's won support among California conservatives (& nationally)
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1802442/posts
Among them: conservative Reps. Jerry Lewis of Redlands and Devin Nunes of Visalia and moderate Rep. Mary Bono of Palm Springs.
They include Bill Simon, a former Republican candidate for governor and longtime friend, and Steve Frank, publisher of California Political News and Views, a conservative Web site.
Giuliani's popularity among conservatives despite his more liberal position on social issues is not just a California phenomenon.
A recent Time magazine poll shows Giuliani, dubbed "America's mayor" for his leadership after the Sept. 11 attacks, leading Sen. John McCain of Arizona by a 2-1 margin among white "born-again" Christians.
"Giuliani so far musters the most confidence among the Republican faithful," said Bill Whalen, a research fellow at Hoover Institution at Stanford University.
Nunes, who plans to help Giuliani raise money in Tulare later this year, said he and Giuliani can agree on such things as states rights and judges who adhere strictly to the Constitution.
Lewis, the top Republican on the powerful House Appropriations Committee, is also supporting Giuliani despite their differences on social issues.
An anti-abortion rights conservative, Lewis has voted to ban gay marriage, supports gun rights and has become increasingly concerned about curbing immigration.
"He bases his endorsement on the candidates' qualifications to become elected as president and to serve well once elected," said Lewis' spokesman Jim Specht, who noted that Lewis was an enthusiastic supporter of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a moderate. "He really looks to see who's going to get the job done."
There has got to be a better conservative out there.
I know a fella who saw Rudy speak about running NY hospitals to a healthcare conference. He said Rudy was the best speaker he'd seen, maybe better than Clinton, whose style he was impressed with.
Man, it's a long ways, but Rudy shore nuff does have a head of steam . . .
Fred Thompson is in the wings. If he runs, Rudy will have his work cut out for him. McCain's and Romney's candidacies will probably rapidly collpase, as wild guess, with Fred in.
Oh boy, he is more likabel than Hillary. He must have a great personality.
This poll isn't accurate because a majority of people don't even know everything there is to know about every major Presidential candidate yet! There are still people who haven't even started running for President yet-give or take whatever you want from that!
Im pro-choice. Im pro-gay rights, Giuliani said. He was then asked whether he supports a ban on what critics call partial-birth abortions. No, I have not supported that, and I dont see my position on that changing, he responded. RUDY GIULIANI (R), FORMER MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY: I'm pro- choice. I'm pro-gay rights.KING: Giuliani supports a woman's right to an abortion, and back in 1999, he opposed a federal ban on late-term abortions.
GIULIANI: No, I have not supported that, and I don't see my position on that changing.
KING: Immigration could be another presidential landmine. Back in 1996, Mayor Giuliani went to federal court to challenge new federal laws requiring the city to inform the federal government about illegal immigrants.
JEFFREY: He took the side of illegal immigrants in New York City against the Republican Congress.
KING: Giuliani opposes same-sex marriage but as mayor, he supported civil unions and extending health and other benefits to gay couples. He also supported the assault weapons ban and other gun control measures opposed by the National Rifle Association.
GIULIANI: I'm in favor of gun control. I'm pro-choice.
Republican Big-Wigs Support Pro-Abortion Event in NY
Pro-abortion Governor George Pataki and New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who also supports unrestricted abortion, are co-chairs of the 2000 Choice Award Presentation to be held on May 30 at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City. The event is sponsored by the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition, a group that is campaigning for the removal of the pro-life plank from the Republican National Platform.
