Churchgoers less likely to support Giuliani (but he is LEADING among them too)
Baptist Press ^ | March 15, 2007 | Michael Foust

Although the former New York mayor leads U.S. Sen. John McCain among all categories, his lead is only seven points (31-24) among weekly churchgoers, compared to 28 points (47-19) among those who attend church nearly weekly or monthly, and 27 points (49-22) among those who seldom or never attend church.

The data, released March 15, combined two polls of Republican voters and Republican-leaning independents -- one conducted Feb. 9-11, the other March 2-4.

George W. Bush’s success in winning the presidency in 2000 and 2004 was in part predicated on a campaign strategy of increasing turnout among the religious Republican right.

..it would be interesting to know how the mayor plans to do an end-run around the overwhelming majority of 16 million Southern Baptists--along with other conservative groups who put GWB in WH and kept him there in '04...

Rudy may well get their votes, but if he doesn't get their sweat he's still in trouble.

I can just see it now, Rudy leading a vast horde of enthusiastic moderates.

Wait, how will the party split if Thompson runs? I think the Party is already pretty torn over Rudy...

We're not voting Rudy in as pastor. We are voting him in as president.

There are more issues and lives at stake than just the abortion issue, for which I work feverishly to change. I believe that Rudy isn't going to touch the abortion issue other than to possibly nominate judges, if given the opportunity who would be strict constructionists.

Incidently, most church-goers don't agree with their pastor on all issues either.

Are you forgetting the anti-Clinton mantra of 'character counts'?

Rudy's character would not at all be condoned or endorsed by our Founding Fathers. This Nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, not upon the shifting sands of latter day liberalism and situational ethics.

Rudy wants to be seen as a latter day Reagan. Would Ronald Reagan march in a homosexual rights parade in which activist pedophiles were also marching?

I think not.

But Rudy did.

I support Rudy and...

I am active in my community at an alternative pregnancy center. I would love to know how many of you who are arguing against Rudy do one thing in your communities to deter abortion. This is a "hearts and mind" issue and it is an issue that will be won or lost in our own communities, not at the federal level.

You scream about Rudy, but are you doing anything, anything at all to help these young women who are struggling with an unwanted pregnancy?????

I would just say that you can't have it both ways. If you want the government out of your homeschooling, out of your gun closet, out of your paycheck, etc., that may mean that it also stays out of other people's bedrooms.

We may not like it, but we can't just pick and choose. I know you will come back with "right to carry", but where does it say that the government has the right to our bedrooms.

Again, we are a country based on Judeo-Christian principals, but we are not a theocracy.

I can already hear the sound of windbreakers and golf shoes marching in unison.

Rudy's not the only one who can beat Hillary:

LOL!!

There's no such thing as "enthusiastic moderates."

It goes against the very philosophy.

"Right now, he's the one guy standing between Rudy and the White House,..." then you can start printing the President Giuliani labels. While I like Fred his performance as a Senator was less than stellar disappointing at least my hopes for him. And after the successful demonization of George W Good Ole Boys are out of the question this time.

He does not appear to have the drive necessary to take the office either. Of course, should he win the nomination there would be no hesitation on my part in voting for him.

I never said we were, but if Rudy and his supporters think they can pass off his questionable moral values as being compatible with the morals and principles of Christians, they are in for a rude awakening. The polls mean nothing. The only poll that counts is the one on Election Day.

If Americans choose to sacrifice their own principles on the Al Davis altar of "just win baby!", they will deserve the chaos and amoral results that will follow.

We already elected an amoral horndog that shredded the fabric of social decency (or are you forgetting Bill Clinton?) and we don't need another one.

And I remind you that Rudy himself has said that his positions are very much like Clinton's.

That ought to be an absolute wake up call for ANYBODY who doesn't want the Clintonista mindset in the White House.

Here's a clue: Rudy's got that mindset by his own admission.

That has been the strategy for almost EVERY American election after Washington's. This idealization of the past has to stop if you want to analyze things accurately. The Rose colored glasses used to view the past have to be removed.

I hate to say this, but If Thompson runs the party will split and Hillary will win.

Yet the GOP will magically unite for Rudy? Can you explain the logic here?

Dear non-voter,

Thank you for your support. Unless we can get a 3rd Party candidate, there is little chance for us. However, we are hopeful about stubborn conservatives who will not vote if the Republicans nominate someone who does not exactly fit their political views.

Hillary Clinton, future and forever POTUS

Don't you know that POTENTIAL life is more important than actual life for many of these Rudyphobes?

.Put fear into the voters by saying that if they dont vote for Rudy, they are going to get stuck with hillary. Not the best politcal strategy IMO.

As someone else put it, his slogan could be "vote for Rudy, he sucks less than Hillary".
