TEHRAN (AFP) - War epic "300", a smash hit in the United States for its gory portrayal of the Greco-Persian wars, has drawn the wrath of Iranians for showing their ancestors as bloodthirsty "savages".
The press, officials and bloggers have united in denouncing the film as another example of "psychological warfare" against Tehran by its American arch enemy at a time of mounting tension over its nuclear programme.
"Hollywood declares war on Iranians," said the headline in the reformist daily Ayandeh-No of the film which tells the story of the 300 Spartan soldiers fighting off ancient Persians in the Battle of Thermopylae.

So????? The truth hurts! Most regimes in those times were ruthless. Hell, even the Spartan's were tough on their own people.
Evidently the definition of "outrage" has changed considerably.

I wasn't casting aspersions so much on Xerxes (accurate spelling), who wasn't exactly a pacifist, as I was referring to Haman, as referenced in the Book of Esther, and his plot to kill the Jews.
Oh brother. It's just a movie, for goodness sake. And it's not about Iran, it's about the Ancient Persians. There's no reason for them to get so worked up.
When the Da Vinci Code movie came out, everyone said that Catholics should not get offended because it was only a movie. The Iranians should follow that same advice.

According to IMDB, that role was played by Andrew Tiernan. However, Murtha is playing that role in the US Congress, that compensates his absence from 300, doesn't it?

The Persians were most certainly not savages and their empire was the first truly international empire in history. Cryus the Great comissioned the world's first document on human rights.

While it was a good thing for the West for the Spartans to have held off the Persians for as long as they did at Thermopylae, the Spartan culture would be considered more barbaric than that of the Persians. The state was supreme in Sparta. For example, families were not allowed to raise their children, and slaves greatly outnumbered the citizens. Sparta was considered a backward pariah state among ancient Greece whose only use was to keep Athens in check.
If only the Muslim government of Iran would follow the lead of its predecessors, then that country would be in much better shape today.
The Greco-Persina Wars were gory? What a surprise as back then one army had to impale its enemies with spears or hack them with swords and axes, or maybe just burn them. I'll bet the real thing was gory even beyond the imagination of Quentin Tarantino or Robert Rodriguez....

Please see my post at number 26. Like every other civilization at that time, the Persians, the Greeks and especially the Spartans, the Egyptians, the Jews and the Romans to come were blood thirsty savages -- by modern standards. Yes, I admit I am guilty of a Whig interpretation of history. And I am familiar with the story of the Spartan boy.
In other news, Iran outraged by puppies.
Another good question is who plays Theron (the bought and paid for traitor in the ruling council) in the US Congress?
