Ron Paul formally announces White House candidacy

Political maverick and Texas House member Ron Paul formally announced his candidacy for the president of the United States this morning during the “Washington Journal” call-in program on C-SPAN.

Paul stands as one of the last remaining believers in strict enforcement of the Constitution and a limited federal government in Washington D.C. Paul ran unsuccessfully for the White House in 1988 under the Libertarian ticket, but now caucuses with the Republican Party. His political platform includes low taxes, individual liberties and a principled belief in the right to life.

His presidential exploratory committee formed earlier this year stirred up his enormous grassroots support from heartland voters, small government believers and fed-up Republicans who believe current GOP candidates offer no real solutions to an expanding federal government and refuse to tackle America's important issues, such as illegal immigration and an erosion of American's civil liberties.

Are you kidding? Small government? In a Ron Paul administration, the printing costs for press releases alone would run into the billions!

Actually, given that Ron Paul is the only Congressman who regularly returns a substantial portion of his Congressional office budget to the US Treasury every year (as a matter of principle, just to save the taxpayers a few hundred thousand dollars in any way he can), I was surprised when his Political Director told me that they are contemplating ONE "extraordinary expense" upon his accession to the Presidency...

...for several entire boxes of Veto Pens.

And then there will be the Castroesque speeches. Maybe if he has a good VP...we know what happened to William Henry Harrison...

Do you have him confused with someone else? American Conservative Union rating of A+ person would hardly make "castroesque" speeches. Or is it just that you're not comfortable with a person who actually votes against spending.

That's the best you can do?

Weren't you proclaiming for yourself an intelligence quotient somewhere in the low quintuple digits?

Gads... I tell my 11-year-old stepson I'm gonna pack him off to Insult School if he doesn't learn to put a little more edge on his sarcastic back-talk to his mother and me -- and buddy, he's already got you beat.

Sheesh.

Hey, me too!

Sorry, not me. i will remain a Libertarian. Following reasons

Uniting the voices of the Third Party and independents is just as useful a cause. Let us remember old friend, the ultimate goal is to get Ron Paul elected President, not merely the Republican nomination.

This is pretty freaking sad. The American sheeple ought to round up most of the criminal congress-creatures and put them in prison. But they are addicted to their socialism. The American sheeple are fat, lazy, immoral, and very, very stupid. They disgust me.

I hope he makes it clear he's really not a Republican, saving us all a lot of embarassment [sic] and disclaimers.

It would be terrible for a Republican to be in favor of actually cutting spending or obeying the US Constitution, wouldn't it?

How's the grass in your part of the pasture?

You're lucky. I wish he was my congressman. I'd finally get to vote for a candidate who understands the Constitution and isn't an authoritarian. But luckily, he's running for President, so I will get a chance to vote for him.

I'm keeping an open "eye" on all the 3rd party candidates.

Ron Paul is NOT a Third Party Candidate. Congressman Paul is running for the Republican Nomination for President of the United States.

However, the Third Parties of the Right are already lining up behind Ron Paul's candidacy for President.

With Congresman Paul, we have an opportunity to unite the Republicans and the Third Parties of the Right under a unified banner of Constitutional Conservatism.

I would like to know more about his voting record and stand on Iraq and supporting our troops if any SUPPORTERS care to discuss them though.

Congressman Paul has an impeccable record of supporting the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.

In addition, RON PAUL is the ONLY 100% Anti-Terrorist candidate.

With a 100% Conservative Index rating, an A+ rating from the Gun Owners of America, a Zero percent rating from the National Abortion Rights Action League, and being rated by Human Events magazine as the biggest Tax Cutter in all of Congress, what more would you like to know?

I am a Ron Paul supporter, and would be happy to discuss any of these issues with you.

In 2008, I'm voting for the REAGAN REPUBLICAN.
I'm voting for former Vietnam Combat Flight

Voting against spending is great! Voting against spending accompanied by a pompous bloviating press release? Not so much. And I love that the Paul Bearers are so in tune with geopolitics as to believe Castroesque has anything to do with substance.

It is best to work for the nomination of Ron Paul to both the Libertarian and Constitutionalist parties.

We call it the 1.00% plan!

Paul is an OK guy, actually. It's his supporters who are so insufferable.

I tell my 11-year-old stepson I'm gonna pack him off to Insult School if he doesn't learn to put a little more edge on his sarcastic back-talk to his mother and me

And a wonderful role model you are.
