>> This is an excerpt from the new issue of Rolling Stone, on newsstands until March 22nd.
Deep in a maze of adobe-colored huts at the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort conference center in Indian Wells, California, men in polo shirts are striding to 8:30 a.m. meetings. Most are gathering to debate recent advances in re-wetting drops for contact lenses -- "I have superior lens technology to Bob, I know that," one man jabbers, croissant in hand -- but beyond the golf course, in a hut with a majestic plaque reading villa capri, six Viacom employees huddle over coffee on polka-dotted chairs. This is the secret corporate retreat for Comedy Central's most popular, antinomian and flat-out awesomest show: South Park...

A good read. Thanks for posting it!
Cartman was "their boy." Both groups!

There are entire episodes where all they're trying to do is out-do themselves in the bad-taste arena. Other times, they do have an agenda of political or societal commentary.
When it comes to bad taste, they like to "draw a line" of how far they should go. Then they take a few steps back (metaphorically). That way they can get a good, running start before vaulting over that line! lol.
For instance, you want to talk about bad taste? Check out the "Scott Tennaman Must Die" episode. I kept thinking, "they didn't just do that! And then "This can't get any worse (in a bad taste sense). And then it did! Over and over again! It was GREAT!!!!
I'm going to hell for making my 81 year old Aunt watch the "Woodland Critter Christmas" episode.

The NAMBLA episode is also one of my favorites, definitely top 5. Other favorites would have to include "Mega-Streisand", the Janet Reno episode(they got it out three days after her stormtroopers snatched Elian Gonzales), Timmy and Jimmy joining the Crips was also a good one, but I'd have to say my favorite was the Christopher Reeves stem cell episode. That one had me in tears it was so funny.
please add me to that "anti-GD hippie" southpark list.
Like fine wine, it's an acquired taste. I had a similar reaction but now I am debased enough to enjoy the show. Stone and Parker are fearless in attacking fashionable liberal BS, whether it's hybrid cars, gays in the Boy Scouts, you name it.
Frankly, South Park is doing far more to grow and nuture conservative concepts and ideology than the RNC ever will.
I believe them when they say they don't have a real political agenda. They just go after what they think is funny -- and liberals are much funnier than conservatives.
And when they think, they don't try to do "conservative" or "liberal", they just try to think about what makes sense -- which of course is the conservative position.
Yeah, and Mad Magazine is a heady tome.
You, sir, have summed up my outlook of life, and I must say, that philosophy serves one very well.
Many on this site should heed that wisdom.
Thank you.

"one centering on "ghost cats," genetically engineered felines from outer space."
Must be reading FR now then. Outerspace Viking Kitties?
Ah. Well, it is a funny, and crude show. And "Team America" is minute for minute one of the funniest movies in history.
Ain't that the truth???
Check out a DU thread on S Park they hate it but watch it... LOL
Ann is pretending to be seriousl.
