Gladys makes great music, but what are her political views?

Don't forget "Midnight Train to Georgia" means she will lock up the votes in the South.

"“I was raised in a Baptist home. We spent all day on Sunday at church. I was kind of all over the place religiously. I was a Baptist and then a Catholic and then I went to several other churches. I was seeking. There was something good in every one of those churches, but I thought there’s got to be more. My daughter Kenya said, ‘talk to the missionaries.’ I fell in love right away. They were respectful, and the first thing they said was, ‘Can we pray?’ I believe in the power of prayer. They told me, ‘You check it out.’ I got on my knees and asked the Lord, and I got my answer. I couldn’t wait for my next lessons. I said I wanted to get baptized tomorrow.”"

Sounds like she's entirely driven by emotions.

But it would probably cause her to lose California. Remember where that midnight train is from.

The srticle is actually pretty funny although I don't think it's meant to be.

New York, I think - it was "too much for the man."

Don't go by one line in a humorous article. She also studied her decision a great deal.

Sounds like she's entirely driven by emotions.

Sounds more like she's driven by personal revelation from God: "I got on my knees and asked the Lord, and I got my answer."

L.A. proved too much for the man
He couldnt make it - so he's leaving a life he's come to know
Say he's going back to find - what's left of his world
The world he left behind not so long ago

He's leaving on that midnight train to Georgia
Said he's going back to find a simpler place and time
I'll be with him on that midnight train to Georgia
I'd rather live in his world, than live without him in mine

He kept dreaming that some day he would be a star
But he sure found out the hard way that dreams don't always come true
So he pawned all his hopes and even sold his old car
For a one way ticket back to the life he once knew

He's leaving on that midnight train to Georgia
Said he's going back to find a simpler place and time
I've got to be with him on that midnight train to Georgia

I'd rather live in his world, than live without him in mine

World, world , it's his and her's alone.....

Wow!!!! Talk about a faulty memory!! Thanks - you've made me a better person. Any lyrics available with the classic backing vocals?

It's easy to mess up musical geography. I remember someone asking me "In the song 'Take it Easy', the singer is standing on a corner in what city in Arizona?" I couldn't remember. (Just looked it up--Winslow.)

Anyway, here's the best I could find:

Hmmm ... no "woo woos" - ah, well. I was always amazed with Gladys, that big voice coming out of a little girl. Her "I Heard It Though the Grapevine" is still very high on my all-time rock'n'roll list.
