It is with growing dismay and frustration that I am watching so many of my friends and acquaintances in the conservative community attack Ann Coulter for her comments pointing out that saying the word 'faggot' can get you sent to a rehabilitation clinic.
That she said it in the context of primping pretty boy Democrat presidential candidate John Edwards has sent conservatives to the fainting couch in an episode of 'why I never!' mass hysteria.
Ann Coulter has walked point for conservatives for almost a decade. She has been assaulted, threatened and stalked. She requires bodyguards for protection. Liberals believe they are justified in physically attacking Ann. I heard one say so at CPAC--not in response to her rehab joke, but because Ann 'insults people.'
Ann has been an early and loyal friend of Free Republic. She is one of the few prominent conservatives who regularly breaks bread with FReepers. Her friendship is now being repayed by FReepers who want her driven out of conservatism.
That so many conservatives want Ann banned from CPAC is a sad indicator of the state of conservatism. It is not Ann Coulter's fault that Republicans lost both houses of Congress. It is not Ann Coulter's fault that President Bush is not popular. Sacrificing Ann Coulter on the altar of political correctness will not win the elections of 2008 nor will it prevent conservatives from being sent to rehab for uttering politically incorrect words and ideas.
After Ann uttered the words that have given so many conservatives the vapors, the line for her booksigning at CPAC was just as long as usual. I know, I was standing in that line. If CPAC attendees were so outraged about Ann's remarks, it was not manifested there. I didn't learn about the controversy until I read about it online later that night.
I spent the next day at CPAC. Ann's remarks were not a hot topic. I know because the only time I heard it talked about was when I brought it up. Those I spoke with about it were not upset.
I do not wish to speak ill of my friends and acquaintances who are dumping on Ann, other than to express my disappointment. I do wish they'd reconsider and stop attacking a friend who has walked point for them. Liberals must be laughing themselves silly as they watch us take out someone they've been wanting to eliminate for years.
"Yes, we conservatives can prove that we are 'culturally sensitive'. We can get Tiny as a featured singer at the next Republican Convention doing the latest Republican theme song."
Unfortunately, we can't, as Tiny died several years ago.
It'll probably surprise you to learn that the late Mr. Tim was a staunch conservative, very religious, and happily married.
I got that last photo from Mark Levin's Show website. Is there a way I can make it smaller? I notice in the path, there is the word FULL. Anyone who is really good at HTML - is there a way to make the photo smaller?
The bon mots of Miss Coulter are always met with screams and outrage. In short course the cries turn to whimpers and are drowned completely. Ann is always a harbinger of truth telling. Her success is based on the simple notion that truth spoken boldly will always destroy the deceptions of PC.
Not I.........I love her!!! She speaks her mind with an off the cuff honesty that is very refreshing.
Those attacking Ann have become thralls of the MSM and the Demorats. It is safe to say they have become so unwittingly. What to do about it? Perhaps an intervention to keep them from watching the MSM, as they obviously can't do so safely.
She's not speaking out for conservative principles by her comments regarding Senator Edwards.
I will support Ann's right to say whatever she wants, though.
The stridency of the support for Ann is surprising. Most of those mildly voicing their disagreements at these latest remarks have been responded to with considerable disdain.
Having said that, it's time to move on.
Just because she has not YET had her faithfull run thru the streets screaming "Raus Juden!" does not mean it will never happen. Keep in mind that Hitler was elected, and in a more honest election than you will find in today's Chicago.
Thank You Ann!
Count me on your and Ann's side. The opposition thinks nothing of worse PC trashing, and will hype the I'm only joking when called on it...............
The media's reaction to Ann's comment simply proves its truth.
Silky Pony and his peeps got their panties in a bunch about Ann's hyperbolic smackdown, but we're still supposed to believe they'll protect our nation better than our side does?
Oh, ok then.
Cool beans! Thank you very much!
Thank-you very much :)
Yes, I do, Mark.
Sadly though, in our culture, we conservatives are suppose to mute our vocal response for the good of the party and not assault those who disagree with us.
After all, how can we draw the lost sheep into our fold if we constantly crucify those we're trying to save?(sarcasm off).
Hear, hear!Treason points out that the use of "McCarthyism" as a smear is not only a smear of the immediate target but a smear of its first target. Joe McCarthy had his failings but compared to the journalists who distorted his words and lied about him, Joe McCarthy was a saint.
People head for the tall grass whenever McCarthy is mentioned. Ann Coulter doesn't. Instead she runs the facts of the matter right down the throat of anyone who challenges her on it. And because of that, you and I can do so too, simply referencing her work and the fact that factually it has not been rebutted. Lied about, yes - rebutted, no.
Thanks, Kristinn.
Ann Coulter is GREAT!
Liberals beware.... go Annie go!
Don't play the gender card. This has nothing to do with the fact that she's a woman. It's that she more into getting herself media attention than any philosophy or political discussion. The more she offends people, the more attention she gets and that's what sustains her. But in doing so, we must carry the put up with the backlash because we are associated with her.
She even exposes them at CPAC and Free Republic..
They cannot help themselves.. THEY MUST ATTACK HER...
BRILLIANT!!... Pure Genius..
