Remember the old expression, "Always a Bridesmaid never a bride"? It seems like Senator John McCain may not even come in second when all the votes are counted in the Republican primaries. When I talk to people about John McCain, I find that many are wondering whatever happened to the John McCain of the 2000 election. Conversations like these started about one month ago. McCain looked like he was locking in all the right people. Problem is, he forgot the independent voter while he made friends with his enemies from the past.
John McCain missed the Conservative Conservative Action Conference (CPAC) because he was on an extensive fund-raising tour. Robert Novak reports that when McCain's staff told CPAC that he would not be able to attend the conference, they never mentioned the tour. In other words, they think he avoided the conference. The result, he finished fifth in the CPAC straw poll. Rudy Giuliani (liberal) came in second but when combining first and second place votes, Rudy came in first. The man who just won't go away is Mitt Romney. He is a reformed liberal who wins the CPAC straw vote. Of the three, McCain is the true conservative. He has lost his original base.
Now, lets turn to the rest of the voters. Where are they going. In a recent Newsweek Magazine Survey, Giuliani held a 25% point lead over McCain. The lead keeps growing. McCain admirers from 2000 have grown disgusted with his attempts to sell his soul for the White House. Giuliani has not played that game and it seems that his approach is working. This is who I am. Love me or leave me. McCain should have done the same.

Check out Mitt Romney's video clip from the CPAC conference on the My Man Mitt site. He was pitch perfect on President Reagan's themes of military strength, tax cuts, smaller, more efficient government, protecting the unborn.
I know Gov. Romney's positions on several issues have "evolved", but remember, he used to be the Governor of the Soviet Union. How do you get elected in Massachusetts as a rock-ribbed Republican and get anything done unless you soften up the image a little bit in order to get at least some reforms passed?
Oh ... God...just what we need...an egomaniac that the press has a track record of destroying...YIPPPEEE.
Well .. we need to be more fair than comparing Rudy to Teddy .. C'mon! There is no comparison.
People are afraid .. and they want somebody who's NOT AFRAID to lead them. That's Rudy's appeal .. whether it will take him to the WH is yet to be seen.
Obama is the MSM poster boy now.
Give me a break. Is that why he sides up to Hillary all the time and makes unconstitutional laws with Feingold. Shall I go on. The man is not only a crank but he is a liberal crank. He only has one thing that is in his favor and that is backing our kids fighting this war. Even then he finds time to bash Bush on some things.
The trouble with the GOP is we elect too many RINOs.
This guy got it all wrong. McCain is doomed in 2008 because he is a preening narcissist who stabbed GWB in the back numerous times. And EVERYBODY knows it.
After what he an Lindsey Graham pulled I wouldnt vote for him if it saved his life..
