LOS ANGELES — It's a role so easy, even a caveman can do it.

A sitcom based on the Geico insurance cavemen ads is being developed for ABC, the Hollywood trade publication Variety reported.

The comedy would be about three cavemen living in modern-day Atlanta who are battling caveman-oriented prejudice, just as they do in the commercials, according to Variety.

The writer of the "so easy, even a caveman can do it" spots is also writing the sitcom.

I can't imagine watching a half-hour one-joke based show, with such a silly premise.

I Dream of Jeannie
Bewitched
Gilligan's Island
The Munsters
The Beverly Hillbillies
Green Acres
My Favorite Martian
The Addams Family
Knight Rider

And so forth and so on ...

I agree with you that the airport spot is the chef d'oeuvre in the series & the caveman's expression at the end is classic.

But it's odd, everybody seems to read different emotions in that last facial expression right after he backs up & scrutinizes the ad on the people mover.

Most folks I've watched it with think he's disgusted that cavemen are being exploited, or he's just disappointed his friend had sold out, whatever.

I happen to detect a little flicker of bemusement, maybe the glint of a prideful ego, i.e., perhaps he's actually starting to get off on the fame & attention.

It's odd, but his expression In that final millisecond of the spotseems to serve as a kind of rorschach test for people.

A couple of the commercials are good and some of the others really suck.

"The commercial went from mildly funny to annoying pretty fast.

I agree. This might work for a mini series. Caveman found and thawed, caveman learns to speak & adapts, Caveman moves to Atlanta and tragically does not have the genetic makeup to digest peanuts and dies of anaphalatic schlock, or something along these lines. Four or Five weeks as a summer replacement, OK.

(Yes, I meant schlock...)

Psychiatrist: Who's that on the phone?
Caveman: It's my mother. I'll put in on speaker.

Someone is going to assume the Caveman represents
a Muslim, and another good comedy goes the way of
"My Mother The Car." Oy!

"a kind of Rorschach test"

In the last instant, the caveman on the conveyor shakes his head, rolls his eyes, and bares his teeth in disgust at the inauthenticity of a modern homo sapiens in an animal skin with a club, depicting his troglodytic ancestors.

Check this out. Remember we had talked about a caveman movie on the Oscar's Heckler thread? A sitcom is the next best thing. But it won't be the same if they don't have the guy's from the commercials in it.

I didn't really get it until he went to the therapist. He just walked by, did a double-take, walked back by and went on. I kept thinking, why doesn't he *do* something about it - like call up the company?

I love the other ones tho and bring up roast duck with mango salsa every chance I get to work it into the conversation - like waking up on the wrong side of the rock, too.

No way it will be a good sitcom, tho - and it will ruin all the "specialness" of these spots.
