Just breaking....no more yet.

He could have moved into the civilian sector
Looks like when you are serving in uniform you are a hero. When you're not, you're a cost. Patton would have shot them himself.
That is how the system works.
I've heard similar complaints from other vets. I wonder if a better solution might be to give grants or big tax incentives to private doctors, nurses, philanthropic organizations, and volunteers to provide care for vets. That way you'd have people who truly care running the show, rather than a bunch of bureaucrats and the indifference and inefficiency that come with them.
Looks like Dana Priest got herself a general's scalp....
Wonder what the rest of the outline that the group is implementing looks like.
Good! It's about time our wounded soldiers got the best care possible in the best surroundings, both during treatment and during rehab. They should build a brand new hospital for this purpose, and it should be first class.
The rehab facility should be like a four star resort. These men and women deserve nothing less.
The welfare bums and drug addicts in this country, who never worked a day in their lives, get to go to nicer hospitals and much more luxurious rehabs than our vets.
How bad is that?
Hate to say it but here it goes. Good job Dana Priest
BULLSHIT! Are you this disgraced commander's publicity hack?
That was sarcasm, right?
It's about time the shoddy care of our vets became front page news. This has been going on for decades, and everyone's been afraid to speak out about it.
But this is a new day. We have the internet, Thank God!
Kudos to Imus, even though he is a nut.
My understanding is that this was temporary housing for outpatients that needed to stay in the area for continuing outpatient treatment at WRAMC, which has pretty decent facilities. I know WRAMC has just opened a beautiful outpatient treatment clinic for severely disabled (i.e., quadriplegics and paraplegics) active-duty here in the Pentagon. I believe the staff is so overburdened by the very high numbers of casualties from VBIEDs and suicide (homicide) bombers that there just isn't the capacity to worry about facilities maintenance.
Mold and infestations of mice and cockroaches in a hospital aren't mere "facilities maintence" issues, no matter how brief the stay.
And what about the early-morning drills? Sure seems punative to me.
I don't see how this pattern of neglect over the course of a couple years can reasonably be defended. Our soldiers deserve better.

What is it that you find so objectionable you have to use that language?
My observations? I told you, I'm in no way connected to the health care system and I'm just reporting what I see with my own eyes. What about you?

Ping...
But...memories stir...

Strange how just a few weeks ago freepers were calling BS on this...
Yeah! Leathernecks never use "that language."
Didn't say that. But then, I don't use the Almighty's name in some cryptic tagline right below, either.
Please answer my question: what is your involvement with walter reed? Do you ever visit injured Vets there? I do.

The VA will get something like 87 Billion for medical services etc this year. My idea is to simply slash the budget and give VETs and others comparable services through private health care providers the same way corporate America does. Establish a contract (for bid) with a firm like Aetna, UHC, etc.
http://www1.va.gov/opa/pressrel/pressrelease.cfm?id=1289
How will this benefit the VET and tax payer? It adds competition to the equation and makes the VET a customer. When I walk into a medical office dollar signs pop into their eyes, and frankly that's good!
1. Vets no longer need to travel long distances for care.
2. Wait times for services and appointments will go down.
3. Quality of customer service in general will increase.
4. Options for the VET (types of procedures, medication, selection of care provider, etc) will increase.
The VA today is a cash cow for a lot of various people, but the VET is actually getting OK/mediocre care and poor service.
But Im only dreaming because the VA social program, like Social Security (Theres another fine example of a social program) has become a multi billion dollar beast that wont get slain, even if that would be the best option.
As I was winding it up heading to LA, a guy who had picked me up got into a bad accident outside Terrell, and I spent a month at Dallas VA.
They took really good care of me. Of course, that was 36 years ago. But I'll always be grateful.

Walter Reed, the building, is a dump in a lousy neighborhood! The medical care is first rate but the army hasn't had the money or the political clout to come up with the funds to upgrade this facility.
