SURGING RUDY HITS 'GUNS & VALUES' PITFALL (Playboy Mayor's agenda--blitzed on sex and gun-grabs)
NY POST ^ | March 1, 2007 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

Posted on 03/01/2007 3:51:33 AM PST by Liz

One-third of voters take issue with a presidential candidate who supports gun control or has been married three times like Rudy Giuliani, a new Time magazine poll shows.......30 percent couldn't back a candidate who favors gun control, while another 35 percent have trouble with someone with three marriages. That includes 48 percent of "born-again" white Christians. But the survey also shows 56 percent don't know Giuliani's marital history, 68 percent don't know his stand on gun control (he's been saying it's a state matter), and nearly 80 percent don't accurately know where he is on abortion rights (he favors it)....Giuliani is partly an unknown quantity nationally..... according to 1,144 registered voters nationwide.

So, by your own admission, any Republican candidate is better than any Dem candidate, since the R, liberal or not, will fight the war on terror?

That's a big stretch if I ever saw one.

Rudy is a liberal period. So are democrats. The Republican party can do one hell of a lot better than Rudy.

Maybe Rudy carries a weapon himself in his bra?

Try to find Hunter's pronouncements on serious foreign policy or domestic issues from prior to 2004

For starters, Hunter was instrumental in the border fence getting passed. He also nailed the Dems last year by forcing a vote on a troop withdrawal from Iraq - they could no longer just talk about it and had to go on the record, and only three voted for the withdrawal.

Hunter knows how to play hardball for national security.

I don't think we are. I'll ping you to a NY Post article that shows how many voters are unaware of Rudy's positions on key issues.

I think the media is pushing Rudy because after his issue stances become known he will split the party as a nominee.

I spend lots of time on the various gun message boards and around the 2nd amendment crowd... they hate JullieAnnie. The Republicans run him and they will push the Libertarians to 20% of the vote.

You are exactly right...the number one issue on voters' minds is the War On Terror....not trying to elect a priest, saint or someone in the image of the Holy Father. We are electing a leader who will appoint conservative judges to the Supreme Court and yes, Rudy has stated he would do so if elected. These dunces who are attacking Rudy and those who support him should take a real, long hard look in the mirror...but of course, they always assume they know best and we all know what the word "assume" means.....

Let me get this straight. Rudy has a long liberal history on social issues and appointed very few GOP judges as mayor.

Yet now that he's running for president, we are supposed to uncritically believe his ephiphany regarding conservative judges.

Who's the dunce?

I think it's half that, and half the pro-illegal wing of the GOP thinking they can ram Rudy down the throats of the right wing. Since we took a half-step to the left with Bush, they want another leap leftwards - and with the front-loaded primary schedule, they think money and bull**** alone should be enough to carry the nomination.

And they might just be right. But Rudy would not be able to win the general.

Go ahead. Believe in your heart what a politician tells you. Ignore what he did in the past.

What a cult you belong to. We should just start referring to Rudy as the Bagwan.

The MSM have had to delve back four generations to find dirt they can throw at Romney, but leave Giuliani basking in glowing coverage. They want to save this stuff for when we are stuck with Rudy as our nominee.

This contradicts your claim the other day that the public knows of Mayor Giuliani's stance on the issues of abortion and gun control.

Indeed, in one recent poll, majorities of Republicans who were informed of Giuliani’s views on social issues said that they were either minor issues or no issues at all; only 16% said that they wouldn't vote for him after being informed of these views.

In the online GOP Bloggers poll, Giuliani is consistently one of the few candidates to end up with a net positive acceptability rating. These internet denizens are well-informed, and overwhelmingly self-describe as conservative (78% self-describe as 7 or higher on a 10-scale of conservatism). If these people can support Rudy, anyone can.

That's a big stretch if I ever saw one.

Here's a much shorter one for you. Odds are pretty high that the battle next November will come down to a pinko-to-the-core liberal Democrat, and a flimsy RINO who will at least be strong on the GWOT.

The Republicans can do better, but they won't. You know it, I know it. So, given those two options, what's it gonna be? Hold your nose, or sit at home? You don't have to answer now, we have another year plus before the question really starts to hit home.
