SURGING RUDY HITS 'GUNS & VALUES' PITFALL (Playboy Mayor's agenda--blitzed on sex and gun-grabs)
NY POST ^ | March 1, 2007 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

Posted on 03/01/2007 3:51:33 AM PST by Liz

One-third of voters take issue with a presidential candidate who supports gun control or has been married three times like Rudy Giuliani, a new Time magazine poll shows.......30 percent couldn't back a candidate who favors gun control, while another 35 percent have trouble with someone with three marriages. That includes 48 percent of "born-again" white Christians. But the survey also shows 56 percent don't know Giuliani's marital history, 68 percent don't know his stand on gun control (he's been saying it's a state matter), and nearly 80 percent don't accurately know where he is on abortion rights (he favors it)....Giuliani is partly an unknown quantity nationally..... according to 1,144 registered voters nationwide.

We can't possibly be watching the same FNC or reading the same NYPost.

getting sexually blitzed every chance he could as a busy big-city Mayor who loved grabbing guns

As a stylistic matter, throwing "loved grabbing guns" into the narrative at this point really ruined the effect for me. That just wasn't what I expected he'd be be grabbing... :-)

Let's also not forget that Murdoch is also helping Hillary Clinton. Would you trust a man who supported both Hillary and Rudy? I don't think anyone here would.

actually, when the constitution was written, the "bill of rights" applied only to what the federal government could not do. It had no effect on what states could or could not do, and states could in fact ban weapons, or force all guns to be stored in the powder house if they wanted in order to form state militias.

The only thing that forces the bill of rights onto state government is the current interpretation of the 14th amendment which purports to enforce those rights of the people regardless of state or local law. But that interpretation is handled by the courts on a case-by-case basis, as the courts see fit to re-write laws or not.

That's why they can keep local schools from putting on Handel's Messiah under the rubric of "separation of church and state" imposed on the local government, but allow Kilo to stand because the 5th amendment only applies to the federal government taking land, not individual community government which are expected to be more responsive to the locals.

Let me rephrase that----purely for your libidinous enjoyment (cackle).

"Getting sexually blitzed every chance he could as a busy big-city Mayor who loved playing grabass with his female staff."

This article was from the NY Post, and hardly seems designed to help Rudy. On the other hand, they are a New York City newspaper, and it is likely a lot of the people who work there could remember Rudy fondly.

His supporters would say "He was searching for guns!" ;-)

Bill Clinton put us in a National Security nightmare so I don't think it is the same.

Presuming Duncan Hunter holds the right position on all the issues that matter, what makes him at all qualified to actually be the chief executive of a 380 million person country, or the leader of our armed forces?

What part of being a representative for decades shows that he has the leadership needed?

If he was a true leader, wouldn't he have shown some sign of leadership in his decades as Representative? Wouldn't he have been vying for speakership or other high positions, wouldn't his fellow representatives have recognized that "leadership" and rewarded it?

Maybe he'd be a great leader -- but those of you who want to push Hunter better figure out how to sell him as a leader, because his career path doesn't seem to provide much of an indication of that.

Give you an example: Try to find Hunter's pronouncements on serious foreign policy or domestic issues from prior to 2004. See how often he was the one out front on an issue, or was the person people wanted to hear from before making a decision.

Leadership isn't the only issue for president, but it is a pretty big issue. I asked a week ago about this issue, and nobody took me up on it. There's plenty of time, and I am waiting to be convinced.

If you wanted to be President of the United States, and you were the front-runner two years out, and obviously you thought your personal life was fine, since after all it's your personal life, why would you ever think to drop out of the race?

Pretty funny that the 3rd choice for each party are people that aren't even exploring the option of running at this time.

Phew-ee! The Post goes into total meltdown over Rudy's sex life.

While I always suspected the Mayor was having an affair with Lategano (no looker, by the way), as a resident of NYC at the time, it looked a lot less steamy than this report. Most of the stories were of Rudy eating in restaurants with Lategano while the press corps looked on. It was said they were both workaholics. While it was also said that she was very competent, she was disliked by staff and the press because of her bad temper.

By the way, she was a mature woman - not some 20 year old intern with kneepads and I NEVER heard about sex in the workplace - doesn't sound like him.

I always thought Lategano would be a problem for Guiliani but this overheated sex report is ridiculous.

I think that the biggest difference is that Rudy would fight the GWOT

Is there another Republican candidate who wouldn't?

Hil would Somalia us out faster than you can say 'pantsuit' three times

Is there another dim candidate who wouldn't?

Rudy is a damn'd liberal.

My same reaction. I guess some are shocked that a New York tabloid would actually cover the 2 NYers in the presidential race. "OMG they put Rudy on the cover!!! OMG a Hillary article! Murdoch is no better than George Soros etc. etc."

Who's that amazing conservative candidate again that Murdoch SHOULD be pushing? There isn't any you say? Huh!

(And I can't wait until the Rudy-haters get behind Newt in desperation and conveniently look the other way on the philandering issue.)

Rupert Murdoch does not tell his writers what to write. All he stresses is balance. On TV he stresses sex appeal and fairness.

Giuliani's 'quirkiness' will be a goldmine for the DBM/DNC... add pro-illegal, pro-gay and anti-gun to the list and you have to ask yourself... WHY WOULD I VOTE FOR THIS?!

So, by your own admission, any Republican candidate is better than any Dem candidate, since the R, liberal or not, will fight the war on terror?

I'm just asking, because I see this issue as one that will crop up again November of next year. ;-)
