Getting RINOs out of the GOP sounds good for the Party and the Country. Strength in 1994 took the Party from a weak, back-seat position to a leadership one. Being weak now puts us in the trunk.

It was what LBJ did after Goldwater drove all the RINOs into LBJ's camp. It let LBJ do the "Great Society." Subsequently, the Great Society and the McGovern movement drove the social conservatives into the GOP camp. It was these Reagan Democrats who made the GOP a majority. Now the Rudybots are doing all in their power to throw us out so they can return the party to the glory days of Gerald Ford and Nelson Rockefeller. If Rudy gets the nomination, they will have succeeded.

????????????????????? Come on. You've got a 1999 signup date. There's something seriously amiss with your claimed lack of knowledge. Common Tator was a well-known FR liberal and a prolific poster on this site for years.

I respect your opinion. The 'hook' line in the title refers to a small number of members who have recently taken the tone of discussion well-below a polite level.

Common Tator can write well, but his argument does not hold water.
It is based on his own opinions of the electorate. Real pols show that a majority of american hold conservative views (sorry, I dotn have a source, offhand) and so it follows that a clear conservative voice always wins. (Witness Renaldus Magnus and Newt Gingrich in 2002)

Actually, it was Jimmy Carter that drove Democrats to Reagan.

Simply
America should have two different parties for choice.
RINOs turn the GOP into Democrats.
RINOs make elections win-win for liberals.
RINOs are bad for the America.

Subsequently, the Great Society and the McGovern movement drove the social conservatives into the GOP camp. I'm told that Rooty was a McGovernite.

I am a social liberal and fiscal conservative. I have always had a place in the GOP, and the party has benefited from my support.
If Bush couldn't drive me away from the Republican Party, some hot-heads on the Internet sure as hell won't.

BTTT! I would, however, don your asbestos suit, as I'm sure there will be many FReepers who will be quite "insulted" by your (and CTs) points here.

Sorry. That dawg don't hunt. Many conservatives held their noses, swallowed their spit and voted the Bushes in. At least these men mouthed the right words.
Now, you expect the same forbearance and team play for a candidate who is opposed to the positions that we hold inviolable? You really think that's going to happen with this political world turned upside down?
And let's be clear. It's the Republican Party who is doing the turning.

calls their opinion the rational or sane answer Whatever ones opinion they think it rational or sane; I have yet to have a discussion where someone says, this is my opinion and it is insane and irrational.

The post was quoted last night on another thread. And I don't have a week to try to scroll back to Tator's 2002 posts to find the original ;>)
Why does it matter anyways? Its the ideas expressed that are relevant...
