LONDON - Prince Charles suggested Tuesday on a visit to the United Arab Emirates that banning McDonalds fast food was crucial for improving peoples diets, a British news agency reported.
Charless comments came while visiting the Imperial College London Diabetes Center in Abu Dhabi for the launch of a public health campaign, Britains Press Association news agency reported.
Have you got anywhere with McDonalds? Have you tried getting it banned? Thats the key, Charles asked one of the centers nutritionists, according to the news agency.
A McDonalds spokeswoman called the remark disappointing. This appears to be an off-the-cuff remark, in our opinion, she said on condition of anonymity, in line with company practice in Britain.
The Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonalds Corp. took steps last year to display nutrition facts on its packaging and vary its menu to counter charges that its food is unhealthy and contributes to obesity. There are 25 McDonalds franchises in the United Arab Emirates.
Charles, who is first in line to the British throne, is an active advocate of organic food. He set up a farm on his Highgrove Estate that does not use artificial pesticides or fertilizers in 1986.
The prince was in the United Arab Emirates with his wife, Camilla, as part of a tour of Gulf countries.
The United Arab Emirates has the worlds second highest number of diabetes cases per capita. One out of five people aged 20 to 79 already suffers from the illness, while 40 percent of the population is at risk for developing it.
Oh, yes ... forgot about the tomato slices. I don't remember the 'shrooms. Maybe it's a regional thing. And don't let that brown cylindrical thing fool ya. It's not Jimmy Dean.
On that note, they should ban British food too. It tastes awful and causes rotten teeth and insanity.
So burn it off with some exercise.
No argument there....
Okay, but why isn't Prince Chuck denouncing the traditional English breakfast and fish and chips instead of McD's?
Many countries banned(decapitated) Royal Families long ago. His country now has a smaller military than 25 countries. His days are indeed numbered.
Cos he's an idiot :o)
I don't think fish and chips and full breakfasts are as bad for you, pound for pound, as a McDonalds, but I won't labour the point as I'm not going to back Charlie's dumb statement.
Charles is why royal inbreeding should be stopped.
Thank you for your insight. The same was said about banning smoking in California restaurants and offices too.
Hey! That's the only good thing at Mac Donalds.
I had an SOS steak sandwhich (with extra bacon) at subway for dinner last night.
Good stuff, I should have bought two.
between the trots, untrained migrants and TB; Hubby is a wise Man. For at least the past 10-years...
...as for Chuckie, he needs to order serious carry-out from Soho that will haul the ashes...
That looks NASTY!!!
They used to have a good apple pie. It resembled the rectangular isze and shape of a "hot pocket". I guess you could say it was a "hot pocket", The outer crust was thin, and the apple filling was plentiful and HOT. Now the crust is thick and there is less apple filline, and lukewarm.
That picture should be in the Yiddish dictionary next to the word "treif."
First of all, I don't accept the concept of "royalty". Enough of this King, Queen, Prince and Princess garbage!
Secondly, if he had to get a job and work like the rest of people he wouldn't be saying stupid things like that.
You could make the same exact thing using only kosher smoked turkey, and it would still be NASTY.
Typical aristocratic paternalism. Most of Charles' attitudes reflect old British upper class prejudices.
Nasty? Ever tried it? Aside from that cylindrical thing, it's quite good.
Hmm... I wonder how the BBQ beans ever got on a breakfast menu in the U.K. An acceptable contribution from the Colonies, perhaps? Betcha Charles urges them to ban the little plug of pork fat that's usually floating in the can, don't you think?
