THE MOST SWEEPING GUN BAN EVER INTRODUCED IN CONGRESS (by Dems, of course)

McCarthy Bill Bans Millions More Guns Than The Clinton Gun Ban

On Feb. 14, 2007, Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) introduced H.R. 1022, a bill with the stated purpose, "to reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes."

McCarthy's verbiage warrants explanation. Presumably, what she means by "assault weapons ban" is the Clinton Gun Ban of 1994. Congress allowed the ban to expire in 2004 for multiple reasons, including the fact that federal, state and local law enforcement agency studies showed that guns affected by the ban had been used in only a small percentage of crime, before and after the ban was imposed.

With the nation's murder rate 43% lower than in 1991, and the re-legalized guns still used in only a small percentage of crime, reauthorizing the Clinton Gun Ban would be objectionable enough. But McCarthy's "other purposes" would make matters even worse. H.R. 1022 would ban every gun banned by the Clinton ban, plus millions more guns, including:

. Every gun made to comply with the Clinton ban. (The Clinton ban dictated the kinds of grips, stocks and attachments new guns could have. Manufacturers modified new guns to the Clinton requirements. H.R. 1022 would ban the modified guns too.)

. Guns exempted by the Clinton ban. (Ruger Mini-14s and -30s and Ranch Rifles; .30 cal. carbines; and fixed-magazine, semi-automatic, center-fire rifles that hold more than 10 rounds.)

. All semi-automatic shotguns. (E.g., Remington, Winchester, Beretta and Benelli, used for hunting, sport shooting, and self-defense. H.R. 1022 would ban them because they have "any characteristic that can function as a grip," and would also ban their main component, called the "receiver.")

. All detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifles-including, for example, the ubiquitous Ruger 10/22 .22 rimfire-because they have "any characteristic that can function as a grip."

. Target shooting rifles. (E.g., the three centerfire rifles most popular for marksmanship competitions: the Colt AR-15, the Springfield M1A and the M1 "Garand.")

. Any semi-automatic shotgun or rifle an Attorney General one day claims isn't "sporting," even though the constitutions of the U.S. and 44 states, and the laws of all 50 states, recognize the right to use guns for defense.

. 65 named guns (the Clinton law banned 19 by name); semi-auto fixed-magazine pistols of over 10 rounds capacity; and frames, receivers and parts used to repair or refurbish guns.

H.R. 1022 would also ban the importation of magazines exempted by the Clinton ban, ban the sale of a legally-owned "assault weapon" with a magazine of over 10 rounds capacity, and begin backdoor registration of guns, by requiring private sales of banned guns, frames, receivers and parts to be conducted through licensed dealers. Finally, whereas the Clinton Gun Ban was imposed for a 10-year trial period, H.R. 1022 would be a permanent ban.

Please be sure to contact your U.S. Representative and urge him or her to oppose H.R. 1022!

You can call your U.S. Representative at (202) 225-3121.

Thanks Joe!!!!!!!!

I continue, Carolyn Mcarthy, dim dem, village idiot, and mother superior, could have stood for reality right and truth, but instead gave in to political power and public deception.

She dishonors the deaths and memory of her son and Husband by continuing to push for laws which will insure that someone else will be guaranteed to enjoy the same loss and widowhood from which she has gained so much personal power and profit.

Oh to be married to someone of such class and familial loyalty. I think I'd be tempted to save the deranged shooter the trouble.

How on earth are you supposed to wake up the public to the dangers of being unarmed in public where you are at the mercy of evil and conspiring people. Answer below.

How do we teach and educate folks to use personal protection instead of playing ostrich by locking yourself in a self contained vault, or pretending the police can help. Answer below.

Does that equal power, profit, sympathy, and NRA membership?
Answer below.

It is very difficult, we don't, No, and therein lies (no pun intended) Carolyn Mcarthy.

Isn't it amazing that condoms get more good press for personal protection than than the two things that have a better guarantee of positive results.

Keep pushing hard left legislation until every middle class woman and blue collar male realize your party is nuts. Please bring up some HUGE transgender rights legislation and make a REALLY big deal about it, how it's time has come, etc. etc.

Given that roughly 1 out of every 5 visitors to FR is working overtime to make sure that the next President is someone who will sign such legislation, isn't this sort of like the pot calling the kettle black?

Carolyn McCarthy, why that's the same Carolyn McCarthy that Rudy Giuliani had a joint press conference with to call for increased gun control and federal licensing after the terrorist attack at the Empire State Building.

Why write , we complain about wetbacks...and the Gov does nothing, we complain about the way the Dems are ruining any chances for victory in Iraq, and the Gov does nothing. The Goverment DONT care about what we think...they only care about keeping thier cushy jobs and big paychecks. If they think clearing all guns off the streets will keep them in offices, then they will do it, no matter how many letters we write or phone calls we makes or emails we send.
The perfumed princes in the halls of power dont give a frig about us.
If I sound Pissed...well I am

it is our patriotic duty to shove our rifles halfway up their butt

Except that folks like Barney Frank might actually like that.

Basically outlaws everything except bolt action rifles.

And just what are they going to do? Come and take them all? The Left hasn't the guts, nor the ability, to take anything from the people. Semi-auto and auto weaponry will always be available and usable. The Left should learn that, live it and come to love it. They haven't a choice in the matter. Their very existence is dependent on their understanding that we will always be armed. Failing to understand that fact will threaten the Left's existence.

I don't know, perhaps if they single out a few defiant types and give them 20 years to life for breaking their new weapon laws, the rest will cave in due to fear of incarceration.

Hitler simply lined them up and had them shot. It didn't take lon before the guns began piling up in front of the administration offices.

The thing I've noticed about FReeper supporters of Rudy...the majority of them are women or seem to use feminine nicknames.

The other thing I've noticed...this is not the forum I entered in 2004. It's no longer a conservative platform. It's dominated by RINOs, East Coast RINOs who think they and their New York candidate know what's good for the rest of us. Who knew that FReepers supported abortion, gun control and homosexuality? I've seen every excuse for this man with all his liberal philosophies. It's sickening, and there's a long haul to go before it finally ends. By that time, you won't know the difference between FR and DU.

I have come to expect a large precentage of Americans to be worthless scraps of human flesh, unfit to be called "Americans".

I do assume, however, that there will be a significant portion of the remaining population who will have enough patriotic guts to stand tall against a tyrannical usurpation of Constitutional rights.

Or, do I detect, even at FR a level of cowardice?

I certainly hope not.

That's because you are very limited on your knowledge of this forum.

In 2000, the exact same thing happened over the candidate George W Bush. The vile and venom is about the same. Many W supporters were banned then also, as have been this time around.

The hate for W still exists here and the comparison of the nasty nature of DU with FR has never changed, with the exception of language allowed for posters to use. DU has no restrictions on fowl language.

I'm sure Ronald Reagan would have had the same negativity if this forum were around during his Presidency. Many here are just not open to other peoples beliefs or ideas. They also tend to be the very hardest to the right on the conservative spectrum. In fact, anyone not exactly in line with their rigid way of thinking, are "RINOS". They also have a tendency to label other people who they don't agree with or who share a different outlook than they do.
