Having been a witness to NYC pre Giuliani, and the miracle he performed, I believe he is uniquely what America needs today. Did you feel Rudy Giuliani was a solid Republican presidential candidate in, say -- August of 2000, or April of 2001? Be honest now!
Conservative principles will have to take a back seat to competence dealing with huge international and economic issues- the nuts and bolts of a Presidency.
1. What experience does Rudy Giuliani have in dealing with huge economic -- and, more importantly -- international isses?
2. I believe anyone who doesn't base his dealings in "huge international and economic issues" on conservative principles ain't worth a damn.

Promises could be extracted from Giuliani today. On abortion, gays and guns. LOL. Yeah, right.
The lasting legacy of the David Souter, Anthony Kennedy and Harriet Miers nominations will be that NO PROMISES WILL EVER MEAN ANYTHING ANYMORE when it comes to constitutional law.

Thanks for your work 'in the trenches' too!
I agree with virtually everything you have said about Rudy--and we (conservatives) owe you a debt of gratitude for your efforts to help many understand the 'WHOLE RUDY STORY'!
Liberal Republicans, like Rudy, are more dangerous than liberal democrats,,,,
because liberal Republicans BLUR THE DISTINCTION between liberalism and conservatism,,,,
making liberalism MUCH MORE ACCEPTABLE.

He's not a Liberal. He accomplished many Conservative things while in enemy territory. I live in enemy territory in NYC and have fought all my life for right-wing beliefs. It's easy being a conservative in friendly territory where you're surrounded by like minded people. Giuliani paid his dues to the Right by fighting the Left for 8 years as mayor of NYC. Law and order issues are not Liberal. Supporting capital punishment is not Liberal. Opposing Christian bashing is not Liberal. Standing up to Islamic terrorists is not Liberal. He did many other things that were not Liberal. He was on the battlefield fighting Liberals for 8 years. He deserves respect for that.

Rupert Murdoch basically runs a "neo-conservative" media empire. That's why so many of the prominent figures in that political movement get lots of air time on Fox News and column space in his newspapers.

Those are certainly valid points -- and thank you for the kind comment. Rudy Giuliani's biggest problem regarding the pro-life issue is that he's got no credibility on the "strict constructionist" tack he's taking right now. What he's basically saying is that
the attributes he would look for in Federal judges are exactly the opposite of the attributes he himself carries. I'm sorry, but I'm not buying that nonsense.
And my point regarding illegal immigration is not just that he's on the wrong side of the issue, but that his actions as mayor of New York City basically made him a Federal criminal. Just think about that for a second.

I will get back to you on this point, James. I have to find some information I traded with another Freeper on another thread a couple of weeks ago.

If you've been pinged to this thread, it's probably because I've come across some interesting comments from you -- for or against Rudy Giuliani -- on another thread. If I fall into this category, I'm flattered. Even if I don't qualify, I appreciate your comments. Like you, I find Rudy Giuliani to be the most objectionable candidate on the Republican side. I fear what he would do in office, and I fear what he would do as the nominal head of the Republican Party. If he represents what the Republican Party will now believe, then the Republican Party doesn't represent me.

Thank you, mkjessup.
You say 'RUDY' and 99 out of 100 people are going to know who you're talking about, just as when you say 'HILLARY', those same people know exactly who Mrs. Bill Clinton is . . .
This is what makes presidential elections these days so pathetic. We've packaged candidates whose primary "quality" is that they've got name (and that's just first name recognition.
