Worshipers were interrupted during an Ash Wednesday service at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis by a trio of hidden CD players spewing "pornographic" messages from beneath pews.
Three CD players had been duct-taped beneath the pews and rigged to go off at 12:20 p.m., Santa Fe Police Capt. Gary Johnson said. An Ash Wednesday service was being conducted at the time, and Johnson said responding officers described the messages to him as pornographic, although he wouldn't go into detail about their content.
The cathedral staff found and removed the three CD players, then called police while church-goers evacuated the cathedral.
The bomb squad arrived at 1 p.m. and destroyed two of the devices, Johnson said. Realizing the devices didn't contain explosives, officers saved the third CD player for evidence.
"We take this very seriously," Johnson said. "We'll be analyzing the piece of equipment for DNA and fingerprints. We'll also be reaching out to the federal authorities. We're going to use whatever resources we can possibly use to solve this case."

I vote for the recent converts from the YouTube video blog about hating God."
What is this?
Hannity was talking about a pro-terrorist he had on his show recently, may I ask who exactly he was talking about?
Probably some nutball Imam he's been locking horns with recently.
I have always wondered why they host so many musical performances.
Can't. Mosques don't have pews.
Just bad smells from all the farting at God while bowing to Satan.
New keyboard, same old fingers.
Were the recordings in English or Spanish or both?
I just heard today that the number one radio station in Lee County is Spanish.
"I doubt high school kids. More likely someone whose lifestyle and/or behavior is at odds with the Church."
I might agree if the CDs depicted homosexual sex. Hetero sex dilutes the message too much. High school kids is a better fit.
Yep, my fingers knew where the letters were on the old keyboard. This one I keep getting ; instead of ' and o instead of i. Hope my fingers sort it out quickly. lol
Possibly, don't listen to it so don't know.
It's three CD players, some duct tape, and timers of some kind. I don't think you give high school kids much credit. We're talking about the only people in the room who can figure out how to program a VCR or get an X-Box hooked up in the mass of cords behind the entertainment center.
When I was in high school some 'kids' stole a bunch of cows, painted them green and put them on the football field. Some other kids landscaped the faculty room, with shrubs and dirt and beauty bark. Simpler and more juvenile pranksters put pipe bombs in garbage cans.
In this one... no one got hurt, they just shocked people. Not a hate crime, not sick, just petty juvenile crime stuff.
How many high school kids do you know that have enough money to purchase 3 CD players to sacrifice for a prank like that?
CD players can be cheap... we don't know that they were good ones. You can buy news ones that are $20 - and used ones at Goodwill for a couple bucks.
Well, to read some of the lame excuses/ responses posted to the story, it was probably just some young tykes hyped up on Cocoa Puffs.
Yeah they can be cheap, but with a timer set to go off at the right time?
Kids aren't broke. Just look at their toys.
I have noticed their toys- usually gotten by weak-willed parents. Peace!
