calling into question some assumptions about Republican voters.

What? We're not all suicidal ideologues?

George Will has some valid points, but I would still be surprised if Giuliani get the Republican nod.

Check back in a year, and we will see where Rudy is polling.

But such commentary is becoming self-refuting.

How so, George? The most recent poll on the matter shows 57% of the base can't even tell you Giuliani's position on abortion. 50% of the same group says a candidate's support for abortion rights would make them less likely to vote for him.

I cannot vote for Giuliani.

On all issues, he is to the left of Joe Lieberman. Every one of them. Joe Lieberman is a democrat.

Giuliani is somewhere to the right of Hillary Clinton, but most sane people are to the right of Hillary Clinton. While I respect the accomplishments of Giuliani, but have no respect for Clinton, I believe that Giuliani's accomplishments were applicable only to NYC and do not translate into qualification for a Federal position.

I view a Clinton/Giuliani choice as a choice between two hard-core anti-Constitutional leftists. I cannot, in good conscience, vote for either one.

A Republican candidate who has run only municipal campaigns is confounding expectations,

What's confounding about it?

Whether you are for Rudy, against him, on the fence or passionately hate him, you have to acknowledge a few facts.

He not only managed NYC, he did it well. Crime dropped and it was a much better place to be.

NYC is not just any municipality. It's the largest city in the nation. Its population is larger that 45 STATES -- much more than the entire state of Arkansas, which saw its governor spend 8 years in the Oval Office.

NYC is also a national and global city. It is a center of commerce for the entire nation and (like it or hate it) the United Nations is here. It's a giant melting pot where over 100 languages and dialects are spoken. The mayor of NYC deals with dignitaries from around the world and has ample reason for trips abroad (rather than excuses for meaningless junkets).

And, unlike some former NYC mayors, Rudy has gotten deserved national attention for the role he played after 9/11. For the past five years, he has stumped for Republicans and has always been a big drawer.

Why would anyone think that he wouldn't be a player in this election? Again, like him or hate him, Rudy is on par with Hillary for national exposure, and leagues beyond when it comes to experience.

Anyone else in the race that underestimates Rudy will fall to Rudy. Frankly, I don't think any of the GOP candidates underestimate Rudy at all. Just the media.

Nominating Guiliani, an American cross-dresser, would complete the switch of the GOP from the party of American interest conservatives to the party of international interest lobbyists. Unfortunately so would McCain. Woe is US.

George Will just recently dumped Ronald Reagan on his personal ash heap of irrelevance. He had to do that to clear the way for the radically left Giuliani.
