Giuliani's problem with the religious [large graphics]
Posted on 02/18/2007 4:12:23 PM PST by Jim Robinson
I don't know about you, but I doubt the Christian conservatives throughout the red state farm belt and especially down in the South are going to cotton to a liberal New York Yankee coming down to try to clean up crime by taking their guns and bringing abortion and gay unions (gay marriage) into their families, schools and churches.

Who is THAT candidate? If he's got charisma and can defeat Hillary, I'll be first in line to support him!

Romney hasn't flip-flopped.
Just like Reagan, he's moved solidly and resolutely to the right. One time.
That's the kind of movement all elected officials should make.
Romney is on the right side of all the issues now. Giuliani is on the right side of almost none.

and I really don't think the 'Rats are going to nominate Hildabeast. I don't either, she's not far enough left for the moonbats that vote in dem primaries.

"I won't vote for him, mapain *spit*, or Romney. It'll be there fault if a dim wins, they ran a dim light to oppose her."
Fine. That attitude in 1992 brought us 'The Toon.
This time around it will bring us 'Stalin in a dress'. Not a very wise or pro-American plan (unless you're posting from your private South Seas island and can act irresponsibly without much fear of the consequences of your (in)actions.

Absolutely not. I intend to see Rudy defeated in the primary!! The alternatives are McCain and Romney. Hunter is a non-starter since he won't have the cash to compete. Ditto Brownback and Huckabee.
To: Obadiah
There are times in life when one must take a stand, even if it means a potentially distasteful outcome. I will not be voting for a RINO, even if that means Hillary. Sorry, but I will sit home. I believe far greater damage could easily be done under a faux "Republican" administration than combating a known political enemy. My opinion as well.

A couple of interviews with Sean Hannity WILL NOT convince me that Rudy is anything other than a pro-war liberal. His politics are essentially the same as Joe Lieberman, Dick Gephardt, Tom Daschle and to a great degree Hillary Clinton.

"I just spoke with Duncan Hunter on the radio by the way. He may be too much of a straight-shooter; the limp-wristers (the same type that fretted about Governor Reagan) are going to be nervous about nominating him."
My God, what is it with you guys? I mean, I am sure Duncan Hunter is a good US House Rep, but when even conservatives like me have to say "Duncan WHO?" you know that he has a snow-balls chance in hell of being elected.
Politics is the art of being practical. Dictatorship is the art of bludgeoning dissenters.
And by ignoring rule #1 you will contribute to electing someone who lives by rule "2.

IMHO conservatives are non-ideological. That is, they have a number of attitudes towards life and politics but they do not have concepts they apply to every situation at all times.
Russell Kirk described this best. Quite naturally, religion is an important part of culture; however, for most it is not the sole, or even, the defining determination of their political views.
IMHO a minority may make their decision solely on one or more social issues but the stakes on other issues are high enough for the majority to make their decision on more than one or two social issues.
This will all be clear about a year from now when some of the primaries are completed. My guess is, people are going to think carefully before they vote and they will vote on more than one or two issues.
To: Jim Robinson
The abortionist, gay union (same thing as gay marriage) gun grabbing New York Yankee. Which all existed when Rudy was just a gleam in NYC's eyes, and which states such as South Dakota and Wisconsin, respectfully, are banning left and right. As for guns I agree with you that Rudy is no Chuck Heston, but he'll certainly be more pro-2nd Amendment than any Democrat.

I believe the Dem nominee will be Gore ultimately. He is maybe the most powerful liberal in the U.S. right now, and world-wide he has quite a following too, he's regarded as an icon. Sure he's based it all on false science and fears, but 85% of Americans apparently believe global warming caused by humanity (and esp. the U.S.) is a reality. He would be hard to beat by ANY candidate.

This is deadly serious business. If we allow the Islamofascists to take over the Middle East and Europe, not to mention infiltrate the Western hemisphere, our very survival is at stake and what your personal beliefs on 'social issues' are will be something you will be able to keep on discussing in jail or on your way to be beheaded... This New York Yankee who lived in NYC during the time Rudy was mayor (the absolute FINEST Mayor NYC has EVER had btw) agrees with this 100%. THIS is MY main concern today. We MUST defeat the Islamofascists at any cost.

You know, I'm not a particularly devout Christian. Some would say I'm a terrible Christian. I have a list of sins several miles long that I'm going to have to come to account for when I die.
When that day comes, I could not be able to defend throwing support behind someone with Rudy's record if I vote for him.
Knowing what I DO of his record, to support him is to endorse his positions on abortion and homosexuality. The same goes for any candidate who espouses support for the murder of the unborn or the normalization of the homosexual lifestyle.
I believe we all, every last one of us, will have to explain our choices and our positions when our day of accounting comes. And I know with all that is within me, I could never explain supporting a man who openly advocated for the disposal of an unborn child just because it's inconvenient.
And with Rudy's very well known support of NARAL and the praises he heaped upon Margaret Sanger, he's completely out as far as a candidate I can support.
So you and the rest of those who are adamant about voting for Rudy can keep making your protestations of doom. Some of us just won't risk what comes after.
Now you and the rest of the rudiphiles can sneer and look down your noses at the superstitious neanderthal who is too stupid to know whats good for him, that's fine, but it's not you we have to answer to.

I only ask you to think rationally and conclude that IF he is the nominee, he will deserve your support. Its the attitude I have towards all the candidates. Its just I think Rudy has the best chance to win in November.
