This is insanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't fathom that any conservative could possible wish this, yet I have seen this quite a few times and here it is again.

Even though the conservatives can see the damage the Democrats do to the country, there are some that want to see the country destroyed in the totally insane belief that once its destroyed, people will start to appreciate conservatives. Well, this approach is no different from the views of the Dems, who don't care about the troops, or the country, just so they capture and keep power.

Only "true conservatives" would wish for a Democratic victory.

The principle is good in theory, but there's just one flaw: The American public's memory and/or curiosity are far too weak for this to do any good.

if you read alot of the FR political threads, you can see this theme evident right here. many people would rather see Hillary win, then see the social conservatives loose their control over the republican party. they all tell me - "we'll survive the Hillary presidency".

yeah sure, the last time they had it, their 8 years of stewardship led to the destruction of the two tallest buildings in lower manhattan, and the destruction of part of the Pentagon. But "we'll survive" they promise me.

Put a Democrat in the Whitehouse in 2008?

How much of the country would they give away to radical Islamists trying to appease them before someone finally stood up to them?

With their "non-binding" votes this week, it is plainly apparent that yellow is their favorite color.

Insane? Not if you want to actually win the war on terror. We can't do it with half the population 'tied behind our back.'

No, the author is making the point if the democrats were in control they would begin to appreciate the nature of the Islamic enemy we face.

THose are your OWN points, nothing you attribute to Goldberg are points he was trying to make. He makes some very good points, however, which seem to have flown directly over your head. THe fact is, were a Democrat to win the WH, and incompetently handled the WOT to such an extent that with a year or so, another attack on our soil would occur, that would spell the end of their Party FOREVER. But if Democrats secretly hoped to lose the Presidency precisely because of such a scenario, they could also figure a way to re-establish a majority in Congress, which even lacking the Presidency, would put them in a very good position anyway. Goldberg doesn't make this point, but I do. The Dems will have to proceed in the next 20 months or so LOOKING like they are serious about gaining the WH, while keeping their fingers crossed that they WON'T get it.

Also, a Hillary or Obama administration will be even worse than Bill was in the 90s. We at least had a GOP Congress from 1995-2000.

If Hillary wins, she'd likely have a Dem House and Senate.

Bill had 45 dem Senators for much of his term. Imagine Hillary with 51-55 or more. Imagine Hillary with 250 dems in the House.

It'll be like it was during Carter or Johnson when the libs had near fillibuster/veto proof majorities.

For that reason alone, we need a Republican President.

It is insanity, but I see a glint of logic in the argument. Essentially, maybe a terrorist attack under a DemocRAT president *might* just jar the Democrat peacenik's grasp on reality, and force them to accept the reality that the Republicans subscribe to.

Granted, it would probably take a dirty bomb or a nuclear attack, or something as big as that, and a lot of people will die, as well as the corresponding dip in the economy if this were to happen. (No comfort that the prime targets for such an attack would be in blue territory.)

>> Jonah Goldberg: Inherit the Wind. What if it takes a Democrat? (Maybe a Democrat should win),

We can't afford experiments like the one Goldberg entertains. Conservatives that support such ideas are a bit too comfortable in their thinking and don't give the impression of urgency.

You know I had the same idea before and after the mid-term......But like you I have realized that this could be far worse and I now think we need to continue the good fight, like the few true Conservatives republicans did in the senate tonight. I shiver at the thought of dem win in 08, we'll be in another civil war before the end of their first term....MAY GOD BE WITH US ALL 3IDVET

This reminds me of a football game, deep in the 4th quarter, the quarterback of the trailing team gets desperate and slings a stupid interception, ensuring victory for the other team.

It's called losing your cool.

It's all your fault.

As I read this, my dear old cat decided to have a great hair ball and rolled of the bed to hack herself to near death.

She survived but I'll have someting to clean-up in the AM.

Not to worry.

It is better than listening to the wonderful Democrat's and the whimps in the Senate.

What a bunch of total whimps.

I am ready to do my own hair ball whooping right now.

Sad!

We saw this before mid-terms - I think its mainly hyperbole to express how strongly unhappy many conservatives are.

I use hyperbole too - for example I'm a fiscal conservative so unhappy with the budget deficit I might say something like "I oppose further tax cuts that don't have matching spending cuts" when the truth is I feel more flexible than that.

the question needs to be asked of all Dems,"What would you do should we be attacked as we were on 911?"

I often believe that if the dems were in office 90% would be for this war..... And the dems only want the power.... it is sick. What may happen is a dem will be elected and then the nation will rally to war.

Sick as it is. It is a pseudo negotiation, Dem social politics for unfettered conservative war.

Democrats have been such irresponsible backseat drivers that they have to be forced to take the wheel to grasp how treacherous the road ahead is

What a stupid concept.

I guess Jonah ran out of good ideas.

Bill Clinton did give us the first house and senate in a LONG time, but look what they did with it, they went on the defensive instead of showing they had a pair.

They LIKE being the minority, I don't know why.

We're SO close to rebuilding the Supreme Court and let's not forget the other courts that are poisoned as well, even if you're a social conservative you NEED to vote for the "R" even if it Rudy, etc., just for the JUDGES.

The JUDGES have more to say about the social issues than any politician, unfortunately.

There are times you have to be pragmatic, considering the predictable Islamic response to a Hillary Presidency, I say 2008 is THE time, even if it's your ONLY time, to be pragmatic. I'll even vote for (shudder) McCain, who I despise if it stops another Clinton Presidency.
