My Rabbi spoke about this today. He talked about denying the past: especially Holocaust Denial and Temple Denial, and that these were methods the Islamists thought they could use to undermine the legitimacy of the State of Israel. Regarding Temple Denial he said that whenever a repair such as is contemplated is to be made on the steps (ramp?) the laws require archaeological digging beneath construction area first to ensure that nothing from the historical past is lost during the construction. He said it is this archaeological digging that the Islamists really object to because it could turn up artifacts which would tend to bolster the notion that the Temple was really built right where everyone knows it was built.
