In GOP presidential race, McCain slips; Giuliani gains luster
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | February 7, 2007 | Linda Feldmann

Posted on 02/07/2007 2:04:47 PM PST by IntelliQuark

For the first time since October 1999, McCain's favorability rating among American voters has dropped below 50 percent. A Gallup poll taken last month showed him at 48 percent, down 6 points from November, and down from a high of 67 percent in February 2000. Giuliani, in contrast, has held above 60 percent favorability in Gallup polls, most recently at 62 percent. Now that Giuliani has signaled a serious intention to run, stating on Monday "I'm in this to win" as he filed papers with the Federal Election Commission, the comparisons grow in importance.

For Giuliani, winning over enough of the conservative Republican base to secure the nomination has long been seen as a potentially insurmountable task. But now, analysts say, it's possible that Republican-leaning independents could make the difference in the early GOP primaries.

Despite Giuliani's slow start, he now regularly beats McCain in head-to-head matchups. Gallup in early January had Giuliani beating McCain 50 to 42 among Republican primary voters.

Next year this time, they'll be putting subliminal haloes over her head and everyone else in the race will have horns and a bifurcated tail

When they get done with the tonguebath whitewash they're gonna give her, us rubes won't be able to wait to cast our vote for her

They managed to give Kerry about 20,000,000 more votes than he could have gotten without them, and after the Media victory last November, they'll pull out all the stops to get back to those Clinton Champagne and Cocaine Cotillions with Bubba all around the globe.

You also seem to have a very limited knowledge in American politics.

Save that for the experts. Second and Third tier, single digit candidates have virtually no chance with the primaries less than two years away. It's a simple fact. Hunter is in that category.

My goal is to get a real conservative our nomination for President, without damaging ANY other candidate who might get that nomination instead. By damage I mean personal attacks meant to cripple the candidacy. I'm all for pointing out the policy positions of all the candidates, and arguing against bad policy. But I won't use name-calling, attack their parentage or question their character.

I'm with you, CW.

It's also because of Hunter's protectionist (Buchananite) trade policies that have the Corporate world completely uninterested in giving him the backing he will need to get past the primaries even if he does pull off a miracle and get the nomination.

But I just don't see that happening at all.

"You also seem to have a very limited knowledge in American politics."

Perhaps (but doubtful), but I seem to have a superior sense of time compared to you.

It is Feb. 07, and the primaries are a long way out.

I for one would not, did not, and never will participate in allowing a member of the Anti-American Dim party anywhere near the oval office.

Wall Street and Business won't give him a dime.

But then, Hunter doesn't believe that he needs all that much money, because he's a Conservative. Such arrogant, childish statements prove that he's not ready for prime time and he won't make it past next February, if he even lasts that long. He also is being sniffed at, due to his association with Cunningham and Abramoff and others.

The primaries are less than a year away. In American politics, that is merely moments away, compared to having to make up 30% deficits on the front runners. It just doesn't happen.

That list of dirty laundry has yet to be revealed. I have been reading more on that myself and it will surface if he ever does become a contender.

But we both know that there is little chance of that in the first place.

"I think Duncan Hunter is a fine individual"

He may be a fine individual and a wonderful conservative, but this is a Presidential Election.

Answer this: Can Duncan Hunter beat Hillary? Please give a numerical estimate of the probability.

In my estimate the probability of Hillary beating Hunter by a healthy margin is something like 99.99999999%

"Hunter has no BIG political or financial backing and isn't going to get any. .... But the kicker is his ridiculous protectionist trade policies."

Please don't confuse people with the facts and stop waking them up to reality. ;)

Some here won't believe it WHEN ( and yes, it will come out, even if he doesn't get into the primaries )it all comes out. He even has aids under investigation...........right now.

What would have probably been just local stories in D.C. and California papers, will now become national news, because he is a candidate. Some here will no doubt blame it on the MSM, call it a smear campaign, but these investigations have been in the works for a long time and most assuredly prior to his announcement to run for president.
