For the first time since October 1999, McCain's favorability rating among American voters has dropped below 50 percent. A Gallup poll taken last month showed him at 48 percent, down 6 points from November, and down from a high of 67 percent in February 2000. Giuliani, in contrast, has held above 60 percent favorability in Gallup polls, most recently at 62 percent. Now that Giuliani has signaled a serious intention to run, stating on Monday "I'm in this to win" as he filed papers with the Federal Election Commission, the comparisons grow in importance.
For Giuliani, winning over enough of the conservative Republican base to secure the nomination has long been seen as a potentially insurmountable task. But now, analysts say, it's possible that Republican-leaning independents could make the difference in the early GOP primaries.

Despite Giuliani's slow start, he now regularly beats McCain in head-to-head matchups. Gallup in early January had Giuliani beating McCain 50 to 42 among Republican primary voters.

Isn't it wonderful? Every post picks up a couple of supporters who want on the ping list.
You got it!
Spamming thread after thread with the same thing, is against FR rules.
McCain isn't going to pull this one out.
Prediction: "Flyover" won't care, and will turn on the MSM for their efforts to affect the election.
It is AWESOME! I am getting really excited to hear Rudy declare officially this Saturday at the California State GOP Convention if rumors are true!
Coming from flyover country, I would agree!
My goal is to get a real conservative our nomination for President, without damaging ANY other candidate who might get that nomination instead.
By damage I mean personal attacks meant to cripple the candidacy. I'm all for pointing out the policy positions of all the candidates, and arguing against bad policy. But I won't use name-calling, attack their parentage or question their character.
Are you aware it is only Feb 07, the election is Nov. 08, and the primaries start in one year from now?
You give defeatists a bad name.
Although I have no choice yet, I can certainly eliminate repulsive candidates like Rudy and McLame.
Besides, I think Duncan Hunter is a fine individual, articulate, solidly Conservative, and deserves the backing of every Conservative out here, especially in the coming months. Lets keep the GOP in Conservative hands, and not ruin it to the "finger in the air" brand of GOPers.
Oh, this is what people mean when they say "spamming threads", posting entirely different articles attacking a candidate whenever the candidate is mentioned......
And "the word" around blogs and FR had the GOP keeping both Houses in '06.
I'm way to the North of fly over country; (NON fly over country.) and I agree!
Put me on the list to by the way. (Pleeze?)
John Bolton for President!
Hunter has no BIG political or financial backing and isn't going to get any. He hasn't even really begun to organize and has no team. He is not only a national unknown, but until very recently, even FR Californians, not in his district, had NO idea who he was. He is also a terrible speaker. But the kicker is his ridiculous protectionist trade policies.
Change that to social conservatives -- conservatives like me and others on here are supporting Rudy. We will NEVER let Hillary get near the WH and if the social conservatives don't want to come along then we reach out to others.
Don't care what anyone has to say within the beltway and neither do most of the people in flyover country. What arrogance to think DC can dictate to flyover country who hates Ms. Clinton. None of us are taking a dive and you can take that to the bank!
If the social conservatives 'take a dive' this time, they will have lost any voice they had left because other groups are already getting on board for Rudy who appeals to a wide range of voters. Guess someone needs to tell that to Pat Robertson that he is supposed to 'take a dive' when he is already reaching out to Rudy.
Some of you need a wake-up call to realize that talk show people that appear like Coulter on TV and others on the radio would love a Hillary presidency because they could trash her all the time and sell more books.
Hannity gets it -- shame the others don't. BTW, there are plenty of blogs already supporting Rudy and more being added by the day.
Too funny!
I'm sure Duncan Hunter is a fine individual, and has the full support of Conservatives in the party. He would lose in an electoral landslide in the general election.
I'm being realistic. Conservatism has lost a lot of credibility. Whether Bush is conservative or not, he has that image and he and the hitherto Republican Congress ran everything into the ground. The populace will not vote for just anyone--but they will vote for someone like Guiliani.
If you don't support him, that's fine--just don't be surpised when the new pure-conservative GOP is a perpetual minority party. Or, it can be flexible and adapt, survive and flourish.
No, it's the same thing, posted to thread after thread after thread and often many times to the same thread.
Since you asked so nice, you have been added! :)
