I am curious.
Would the same people oppose vaccinating children against HIV?

I'm sorry, I do not trust any vaccine/pharm. company these days as I am very suspicous. You never know what it will do to a person later on in their life.

"Cervical cancer accounts for 3,700 deaths a year in the United States, including nearly 400 in Texas."

of which 70% MAY (important word) have been prevented by this drug. The makers of this drugs do not guarantee that it works. It only works (most of the time)on 4 stains of the virus.

100% may have been prevented if these women would have had regular pap smears. A much better use of taxpayers money would be to fund clinics that offer these routine tests, such as pap smears and mammograms which would provide early detection and treatment of cancers, saving many more lives.

It's also important to note that most of the time, a HPV infection clears up on it's own.
If people want this shot, then by all means, get it. But women should be warned when getting it that it does not prevent all HPV infection, and regular pap smears are no less important.

Making it mandatory is poor use of taxpayers money for a product with such limited benefit.

OK if people don't want this vaccine then also legislate that anyone receiving public health assistance (Medicaid) cannot receive any treatment for cervical cancer, screening or genital warts at public expense if they refuse the vaccine.

Perry is a real scumbag, he takes huge donations from these drug companies and then lets the drug companis pretty much write the legislation demanding that all girls get this shot that just so happens to be produced by that very same drug company.

Perry should be in jail, he is no different than a drug dealer hanging around on the streets selling dope to kids to make a quick buck. Of course, the idiot Bush is silent about what is going on back in his home state of Texas, maybe the coke snorter Bush supports this kind of legislation, who knows... the guy can barely even string together a few words to create a complete sentence.

Folks like Perry are going to ruin this party, requiring young kids to get shots for STDs when instead they should just let kids be kids and tell the drug companies to go to hell.

And what is the point anyways of giving shots to kids when MILLIONS of criminal scum from Mexico are just streaming across the border and they don't have any shots, only shots those folks use are gunshots against our state troopers.

and may be trying to raise his national profile as a potential vice presidential candidate.

Stick that profile out a little further, boy.

I want it smacked HARD!

-----

Parents will be able to opt their 11- and 12-year-old daughters out of the program, as they can for other required vaccines.

As posted earlier, this is a lie;

Texas Education Code
CHAPTER 38. HEALTH AND SAFETY
§ 38.001. IMMUNIZATION; REQUIREMENTS; EXCEPTIONS.
SUBCHAPTER B. SCHOOL-BASED HEALTH CENTERS § 38.053. PARENTAL CONSENT REQUIRED.
(a) A school-based health center may provide services to a student only if the district or the provider with whom the district contracts obtains the written consent of the student's parent or guardian or another person having legal control of the student on a consent form developed by the district or provider.

The State has to GET consent, it can't ASSUME consent and make the parent prove differently.

This edict is illegal on a lot of levels. Just sent 2 detailed letters to Reps via email.

-----

Parental duty calls, I'll check back later.

Thanks for the ping!

"If the medical community developed a vaccine for lung cancer, would the same critics oppose it claiming it would encourage smoking?"

Actually, I believe that they would (and would be joined by some of their puritan soulmates on the left).

A lot of people have 'stood up' for Perry because of the 'opt out' option. But I think Perry is just displaying the same kind of nanny-statism conservatives generally detest.

"Providing the HPV vaccine doesn't promote sexual promiscuity any more than providing the Hepatitis B vaccine promotes drug use," he said.

Hepatitis B is also a sexually transmitted disease.

If Perry is serious about the health and wellbeing of our young people he would overhaul the school lunch programs in Texas. French fries, pizza, hamburgers and tater tots are offered daily to kids and that is what they eat.

Next time someone tells me that the Republican Party is for individual liberties and self sufficiency, I'm going to probably sprain my gut from laughing.

They are for no such thing.

It is a very small group who want to test (Yes ,I said test!) this vaccine on Texas school girls.

I'm with you on impeaching that pimp Perry.

Those who are all right with mandated experiments on school children are wicked.

Remember Megele also had the blessing of his government. He found out that the blessings of a government are worthless once those in charge loose power.

I hope for the sake of all you ignorant pigs, who want to go through with this scam, that Perry either checks himself or he is checked. If one girl suffers discomfort or loss as a result of a botched vaccine, Hell will be paid!

Turns out Perry's prior chief of staff is paid $250K a year to lobby for Merck and the wife of the current COS is involved with Merck.

After reading an editorial in the Rocky Mountain News, I'm skeptical about this. Because of relatively low cost but effective screening techniques like Pap smear, the incidence of this cancer has gone down to modest numbers. And the vaccine is very expensive. Is this to be paid for by the state or insurers or both?

Merck is funding the groups who are aggressively lobbying for this. It seems public health may be a camouflage for the feminists and Merck pushing not very public spirited agendas while no one is looking out for taxpayers and premium payers.

Oh, plus the vaccine is only 70% effective. So, it's not a lot of bang for big bucks.
