Max Boot is a great name. If your name is Max Boot you have to be a military guy. Max Boot canot be an interrior designer.
...but could be coutourier, yes?
He could a shoe salesman for Chuck Hagel.
Boot has a great book on America's "little" wars. Having met Hanson, though, and read everything he has, I tend to agree with him.
I'm going to read these exchanges today. Thanks for your work (and everyone else) on The Citizen's Report on Iraq.
Thanks for posting this article, Valin.
The Savage Wars of Peace is a must read, IM(not so)HO. It was an eye opener for me, I look forward to his latests.
Bump!
I have enjoyed most everything (1 or 2 articles out of 30-40 left me puzzled) that I have read by VDH. I have not read more than 10-15 articles by Boot. I do not consider myself to be well versed on either of these great writers.
Round I definitely goes to Hanson. He spells out the political/military dynamics more clearly. I like Boot's context at the end of the article. It balances his pessimistic view.
Let me know if you want in or out.

Seattle's NFL team has Max Strong on their offense. Another great name.
Good read. I had a thought (unusual of course) that if we lose "face" in Iraq by withdrawing sans victory, the effect on the military will be so great that the U.S. will have to reinstate the draft to man the military. No one will re-enlist.
What could they possibly debate of any consequence? Perhaps, they could debate over who is the most enthusiastic Wilsonian.
And whatever you do, don't get your case heard by Judge Max Fine.
Well said. I see a debate between Boot and Hanson much like the debate between Republicans and Democrats. Not if something should be done, but how much of it will be done.
VDH provides great context in his Round IV summary. Great discussion between 2 great writers, historians, thinkers. I remain optimistic that Iraq's finest are learning from America's finest. BTTT!
