President Bush honored the 2006 NHL Stanley Cup (hockey) Championship Carolina Hurricanes at the White House. [I lost the b key on my keyboard with the Great Water Mishap earlier this week so if I type a b that doesn't show up, and forget to copy and paste it in, please insert it mentally into the text. In my replies I might start typing a v in place of b.]

Secretary of State Rice hosted a meeting of "the Quartet" to discuss events in the Middle East.

Defense Secretary Gates and General Pace held a news conference at the Pentagon. Text here.

National Security Adviser Hadley conducted the press briefing today, discussing the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), text and video here. The NIE is "an effort to bring together all the elements of the intelligence community and come out with a consolidated set of judgments about the situation in Iraq." It is a new document, provided to the president to develop a new strategy or new approach to Iraq.

Laura Bush promoted heart health awareness by attending the Red Dress Heart Truth fashion show in New York.

Do you start to get tense as the minutes tick away toward the final moments to make a 6id at e6ay? This is starting to drive me nuts!

JUST TO MAKE YOU JEALOUS: Hubby and I (and a hundred of our friends) will be joining TONY SNOW for dinner tomorrow night . . .

You succeeded!!! I am so jealous. I think you know I love Tony. The only way I will get a little un-jealous is if you give us a full report. I want to hear anything you want to tell us--and pictures would make it even better! :)

I hope that you and hubby have a fantastic time. How exciting!!

P.S. Thanks again for all the work you do to keep us informed.

Sometimes depends if it something I really want and suddenly I see the price creeping up.

I have been going in at about 30 seconds recently the only problem there is that if you are outbid there is not time to go back in again.

I really, really want this key6oard. It's down to 49 min. and the only 6ids are the two that were there. I'm hoping the other 6idders are party animals and are having a great time chugging 6eers or some such with the 6uddies, and have forgotten all a6out key6oards.

What's the usual kick-up in price increments? This item is quite inexpensive, so the lowest vid I can make is 50 cents higher. Does that leap up if the item is expensive?

Maurices BBQ in Columbia and Bessingers in Charleston have a mustard sauce which is excellent, especially with their hash over rice. They market four barbeque sauces, 3 red and one mustard. Maurice was on his way to nationwide fame and fortune but alas he is a proponent of the Confederate Flag so lots of critics etc boycott his restaurant, but Snugs if you ever get to SC, you will be in for a treat if you go to one of his restaurants.

You can put in any amount for example last week I was bidding on a camera exactly the same as my best one.

It was at 16.10 and that was going up in 0.50 at 30 seconds I typed in the maximum I was willing to pay which was 27.50 I got it for 16.60.

When the next person bids if they are lower than your bid it will then go to their highest figure for example if it is 5.50 at the moment you type in 8.50 but someone else types in 6.25 then I think it would show either 6.25 or 6.75 as the current bid with you as the highest bidder.

From Wikipedia: "Auction sniping is the process of watching a timed online auction (such as on eBay or Yahoo!), and placing a winning bid at the last possible moment (often seconds before the end of the auction), giving the other bidders no time to outbid the sniper. Some bidders do this manually, and others use software designed for the purpose, such as Auction Sentry and Ebay Sniper. A bid sniper is a person or software agent who performs auction sniping.

There are also online sniping services, such as AuctionSniper, AuctionStealer, BidRobot, Esnipe, Gixen, mySniper.com, PowerSnipe and SniperAgent, where the software agent is run from a website rather than the sniper's own computer. This decreases the failure rate of the snipe, because the website is expected to have more reliable servers that might be quicker to react."

Some people don't like to use sniping service, but I do. I often am not around when the auction is finishing, and this way you don't have to be. You sign up with them--enter the information which includes the maximum amount you are willing to pay, and then they do the bidding.
