Top Democrat Sen. Robert Byrd is warning that the Bush administration is preparing to go to war with Iran.
In a e-mail message sent to activist Democrats, the West Virginia lawmaker who is now President pro tempore of the Senate and third in line for the presidency after Dick Cheney and Nancy Pelosi rails against President Bushs plans for a troop surge in Iraq and declares:
"Not only does Mr. Bush intend to plunge us deeper into what is now clearly a civil war in Iraq, but he is now increasing his belligerence towards Iran and Syria. In his State of the Union address, Mr. Bush called out Iran no less than seven times.
"I fear that what we are seeing now is an administration intent on laying the groundwork for a wider war in the Middle East.

That is why it is so important for us to reject Mr. Bushs plan for more troops in Iraq. Once escalation in Iraq begins, there is no telling what ruinous consequences await this nation. The e-mail sent out under the banner of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee contains a link to a petition addressed to Bush, urging him to abandon his "escalation strategy.

This is common sense. But Byrd now lacks all sense, common or otherwise. The same goes for the "reporter" who treated this as a story, rather than a) a statement of the obvious in military planning, and b) further proof that Senator Byrd is marginal in the category of "rational being."

The democrat party must know they are biting off their noses to spite their faces with this line of talk, and allowing Byrd to mouth off the way he does. But with faces like they got, a nose or two here and there don't make much difference.
Byrd... What a laugh.
The old bugger is still pissed that the South didn't win the Civil War and I wonder how he feels about Obama possibly being the next DumocRAT nominee? When he was the Grand Dragon of his home town KKK chapter, I wonder if he ever thought that a black man could be leading his formerly pro-slave DumocRAT party?
Iran and Syria are aggressive enemy nations that support terror. Iran is developing a nuke capacity and threatens us just about every day. Iran is also killing Americans in Iraq. Both countries are forms of dictatorships. Yet democrats get up and speak for these countries every day.
Another wonderful example of the inability to understand America, the president, world crises, our security and the safety of our grandchildren.
Where did the democrats ever get the term liberal elites? There is no intelligence in them. Aren't they the ones that keep on saying "Bush has not given what our goals are in this war", "no clear direction in the war", and aren't they the ones that still think we went to war with Iraq because Iraq was the one that attacked us on 9/11?
Pure ignorance. And a wonderful example of why they should never have control over the defense of this country.
Wonder what he thinks Iran is? What are Iran's goals? And Byrd thinks we do not look at the world threats but wait to be attacked and lose 100,000 American citizens?
Yeah right - I want his party reviewing world threats. Give me a break.
Did you leave your hood at home, Byrd?
"Bush wants war with Iran"
SO DO I! Within the hour would be great!
Well, for once in his life, Byrd is actually right. This is why Bush is going all around the world threatening Iran and Ahmanutjob; telling Iran and Ahmanutjob not to mess with The US; that when he gets through with Iran there's be nothing left of it . . . . . . . oh, wait, that's what Iran is doing.
I wonder which pill Byrd gets his information from - theyu are causing hiom to look more retarded than he makes himself look on his own.
The Freerepublic wants war with Byrd.
Senile old man. Good argument for term-limits.
Yo, Bobby "Kleagle" Byrd, is your son-in-law Iranian?
Senator Kleagle should go back under his soiled bedsheet!
And the problem with this is?
