Anti-war protesters spray paint Capitol building
The Hill ^ | January 28, 2007 | Jackie Kucinich

Anti-war protesters were allowed to spray paint on part of thewest front steps of the United States Capitol building after police wereordered to break their security line by their leadership, two sources toldThe Hill.

According to the sources, police officers were livid when theywere told to fall back by U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) Chief Phillip Morse andDeputy Chief Daniel Nichols. "They were the commanders on the scene," one source said, who requested anonymity. "It was disgusting."

After police ceded the stairs, located on the lower west frontof the Capitol, the building was locked down, the source added.

A second source who witnessed the incident said that the policehad the crowd stopped at Third Street, but were told to bring the policeline in front of the Capitol.

Approximately 300 protesters were allowed to take the steps andbegan to spray paint "anarchist symbols" and phrase such as "Ourcapitol building" and "you can’t stop us" around the area, thesource said.

Morse responded to these claims in an e-mail Sunday afternoon, explaining that the protesters were seeking confrontation with the police.

"While there were minor instances of spray painting ofpavement by a splinter group of Anarchists who were seeking a confrontationwith the police, their attempts to breach into secure areas and rush thedoors of the Capitol were thwarted," Morse said. "The graffiti waseasily removed by the dedicated [Architect of the Capitol] staff, some of whom responded on their day off to quickly clean the area."

He added, "It is the USCP's duty and responsibility to protectthe Capitol complex, staff and public while allowing the public to exercisetheir First Amendment rights … at the end of the day, both occurredwithout injury to protestors or officers."

I was trying to find a post of some old photos of the machine-gun nests in D.C. to prove to my wife. (I couldn't find any). It was in response to how many democrats want a resurrengence of the good old "peace protests" of the seventies.

That it is, and the Democrats are in charge of the Capital Building now, so let's hound them on this issue and see if they have any hair where it matters.

Why is it that in this thread you're advocating violence against someone burning the flag, but on the DC Chapter after actio report thread you're bitching at them for counterprotesting against libs.

So...we're allowed to beat on them but not speak against them? Got an explanation for that?

Not all wars are shooting wars, skippy. Try looking up a minor conflict called the Cold War for an example.

If the lefties get what they want this time out it will have an effect on this country as damaging as an enemy attack. It may not be time to shoot, but it's time for you to man up and quit harassing people who realize how serious this is. If you want to say they're not winning hearts and minds that's your right, but you sure aren't going to win any hearts and minds on FR with your crappy attitude.

Sometime back in the seventies some hard-hat workers in NYC beat up some hippies during a "peace" march that got out of hand. And of course I don't advocate violence against a peaceful march, but when it comes down to soldiers being spit on and vandalism then I think it would come under self defense and protection of public property.

Something like the Kent State tragedy is what I think these anarachists and radical left would love to create/provoke - just like they did back then. A few of the hard-core left would go from campus to campus to incite riots, burning of buildings, etc. - and then fall back to see the hippies and students continue and serve as good "anti-establishment" propoganda as the cops lobbed tear gas into their midst. Followed of course by louder cries of "Impeach President Nix- I mean Bush!". (Reminds me - I love how the Bush/Nixon comparisons have increased lately!).

The far-left can't wait for the return of those emotional and intense days where the "people" stood up against the "man".

Excuse me? There ones who defiled the Capital Building's butts should be calling a bail bondsman right now.

Disgusting and unbelievable.

What if tens of thousands of war supporters shown up?

The left wing moonbats probably would have lost control of their bladders and/or sphincters.

Of course they always manage to hold these big "Peace Marches" in cities where the common citizens are more or less disarmed. Wonder why that is?

We had some people on here a week or so ago saying it's against the constitution to have police.

Some federal police agencies do not seem to have any foundation in the Constitution, in at least one case the Constitution prohibits their primary activity.

Local police are a state matter to be covered by state constitutions.

I much prefer independent police agencies, with the head honcho elected by the local people to police agencies where the head honcho is appointed by a politicians or worse "city managers". However the federal Constitution is silent on such matters.

Most of us here have jobs.

Yea we do. Most of have vacation too. A more serious problem is the cost of airfare, or the extra time needed to drive. Convoys or chartered buses would have been nice. That's not to say that in individual cases one might not be able to attend due to previous commitments.

More should have been there, and I include myself.

I did participate in a couple of events in Crawford as a counter to the Bitch in the Ditch. Even brought reinforcements for the second, larger, one. But kristinn was there too. All the way from the DC area.
