As always, soliciting FReeper comments, observations, and opinions.

Will someone please explain to me the obsession with Joe Biden that all the Sunday show hosts have? Dick Lugar I can understand, he is a Republican the democrat-favoring driveby media can count on to prove the dem talking points, but Biden? First of all Biden is running for President as a dem and will challenge such DBM darlings as Hillary and Obama. Secondly, he's not very bright. Finally, he simply appears too much, one would think the hosts would worry that his constant appearances would hurt ratings.

I guess they must get good ratings with Biden as he's always on. I think our little contingent of DBM Sunday watchers mnust be the unimpressed with Biden minority!

While Arkansas is a predominantly Democratic state, Huckabee won two full terms in landslides. He championed tax increases for public schools, expanded state insurance programs for the children of the working poor and opposed banning state services for illegal immigrants.

The above is from the Huckabee Announces thread:

Mike Huckabee Launches Presidential Bid

Washington Post ^ | January 28, 2007 | AP
WASHINGTON -- Conservative Republican Mike Huckabee, seeking to repeat the success of another former governor from Hope, Ark., said Sunday he is taking the first step in what he acknowledged is an underdog bid for the White House in 2008. Huckabee, who left office Jan. 9 after serving 10 1/2 years as governor of a Democratic-leaning state, faces steep odds in a crowded GOP field that includes well-known and well-funded hopefuls such as Sen. John McCain of Arizona, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Maybe because he is the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Surprising as it may seem, he is a favorite with many liberals I know. They think he has lots of experience and knowledge about foreign affairs; he appears to be in the political center of his party; and he doesn't give the impression of being a rabble-rouser or flash-in-the-pan. When I tell them he is the DUMBEST man in the Senate, they are incredulous.

In view of the 'hundreds of thousands' on anti-war protesters that 'descended' upon D.C., I wanted to ask if anyone saw us in D.C. Monday? Thought not. See anything in print or the MSM? No? Or maybe one report that said one thousand folks came.

I post, you decide.

For your perusal...

This is the video of the rally... which is early and most of the buses aren't even in yet (we had just got in):

Gotta give Yahoo credit... they did attempt to make the anti-war marches seem huge:

BTW, there were marches for life in 27 cities, including LA, Michigan, Missouri, Idaho and others last week.

Mark Kilmer has posted his review of the Sunday Morning shows over at ReadState.COM.  Here's the header and lede in:

The Sunday Morning Talk Shows - The Review

(In which Joe Biden saves the world.)

By Mark Kilmer

Sunday, January 28, 2007

Two of the 9 o'clock shows led with conservatives seeking the 2008 Republican Presidential nomination. Mike Huckabee (MTP) is going to file papers on Monday. He said that his religion explains who he is, and that candidates who say that their religion won't influence their decision-making are saying that their beliefs are insignificant. Sam Brownback (FNS) would not answer the question of whether or not a Mormon is a true Christian; rather, he pointed out that this country has no religious test for office.

Joe Lieberman told Wallace on FNS that he remains allied with the Democratic Party because they are progressive and strong on defense. Strong on defense? It sounds like they've changed from what Joe remembers, and is he trying to tell us something? Or to dangle a threat?

In the din which Russert called a discussion, Chuckie Schumer pointed out that 70% of Americans surveyed by someone oppose sending more troops to Iraq. He declared this "democracy," and I suppose he still doesn't understand why the United States is a republic. Schumer also said that the Democrats voted to approve General Petraeus while opposing his plan because they have no business interfering with the President's decisions on commanders. (I'm still shaking my head. I need a transcript.) He called the President's plan, "A Flop."

On TW, Dick Lugar said that the resolutions would not be helpful and we should give the President's plan a chance to succeed. Joe Biden said that merely by introducing his resolution, he's created great changes in the nature of the world and its condition, and that it is not important if his resolution ultimately fails. What is important is the debate he has started. He's going to announce for President on Wednesday and he can win because Jimmy Carter was an incompetent boob with no experience who got this country into trouble with foreign nations.

On FTN, Jim Webb says that in Iraq, we have a "five-sided problem." He could have been referring to the Pentagon, though he wasn't explicit. Same show, Arlen Specter said he opposes the surge and might like to see a cut in funding, along the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam model. (He named the countries as his precedent.) Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said he doesn't see any of the proposed resolutions getting the 60 votes needed to pass.

On LE, Jay Rockefeller said that if we fail in Iraq, they'll just go on killing each other, Jon Kyl characterized the results of a failure in Iraq as much worse and left open that he might consider sending more than the initial 21,000 troops.

There's more. Read More for the show-by-show discussion.

As always a very good review.  Excellent show by show info at the link.

I applaud your courage. Most people attempt to hide their moronic natures but not YOU. NO, you FLAUNT your morondom. You proudly cruise the Free Republic squealing "I AM THE WORLDS LARGEST IDIOT". I must say I have NEVER seen anyone so willing to make peace with a painful personal truth as you have embraced your imbecility. Well done brave soul!

I finally watched a Sunday program. In this case it was Fox News Sunday.

I listened to Senator Brownback quite carefully. He is a guarded person who waffles on the issues and has no satisfatory explanation for his support for the non-binding, surge resolution. He seems to believe in some sort of bipartisanship that includes avoiding any possibility of victory.

As a candidate he seems to respond to polls. Chris Wallace pointed out his switch on abortion and the Senator listed his chief attributes as being 100% for the social conservative positions. In this he wears these positions like clothes always able to take some off and put others on. Definitely does not make good contact on the TV and he seems to be weak and vascillating no matter how he tries not to be.

Senator Lieberman was another story. I shudder what he would do to the Pubbies if he were the RAT Presidential candidate. He makes good contact, has depth, answers honestly and has a solid warm, contactful demeanor that is not possible to fake. He is formidable and I can easily see now why he beat Lamont so badly. He is a man of substance and neither Lamont or, for that matter, Brownback are.

First impressions and personal impressions are often denigrated. Actually, through thousands of generations we have learned to read others immediately if we permit ourselves.

As a final pleasant thought. I note that H. Clinton tried to indicate she was used to dealing with evil men and the audience burst into laughter. Someone should get that tape and we should play it often. It tells everything you need to know about how people really feel when they listen to her. She is not viable candidate if she has to be spontaneous in her interactions with others. A hard, calculating, ruthless persona is easy to sense.

If I were the Republican National Committee, I would secure copies of the "Velveteen Rabbit" and act accordingly. This simple child's story is all about what it takes to be real--neither Brownback or Hillary are real.

Out of respect for what you ONCE were, I will let you off the hook this time. Next time think twice before deciding to post like a childish punk. You are old enough to know better.

You do realize your postings here make you look like a total twit?

Ever wonder why every thread you go on magically dies shortly after you start posting?. It has been 1 hour since you started posting here and suddenly the thread has gone from several hundred posts each hour to, other then yours, less then 20 in the last hour. Why? Because Freepers simply leave the thread rather then have to put up with your childish rantings. So maybe you better ask yourself in the future just what you think you accomplish acting like a punk? Because other then YOU, no one is paying any attention at all to your rantings. If you ever want to be taken seriously, you might try actually entering the debate rather then acting like a punk with a chip on his shoulder looking for some one to knock it off.

The most impressive thing about the Chris Wallace interview with Senator Brownback was the absolute hard line grilling he gave him. It will be interesting to see if Wallace adopts that same tone with Senator Clinton when he has contact with her. Senator Brownback seemed to have not been prepared for any questions, soft or hard. Maybe he has become unsettled by the loud voice of petition signers who have agreed to stop contributing money for Republicans like himself who will not support President Bush in this WOT.
