The only person I heard that was on the witness list is the Mayor...and the only Senator was Obama.

But, it is Senators from the Homeland Security committee, and another one...so, I would guess Lieberman and Collins...

They are on a "fact finding" mission...but, I just wonder who is escorting them...if it is Nagin and Blanco...well, we know where that will lead...

Duncan Hunter has been a Congressman for almost half his life, he is not an outsider. Ronald Reagan did not need to run as an outsider, he had plenty of recognition and he was never a Beltway freakazoid. He played the game as an insider because that is mostly what he hired. He was not a micro-manager control freak like Jimmah Carteh.

There's a psychological term for whatever it is that possesses you right now, I'm sure, but there is no way that I have the power to make people leave a thread. I don't know, maybe I do, but I take it you couldn't find Waldo, er, I mean the error in 711?

Against the stiff and calculating Rodham Clinton or the messiah-like hussein Obama, old "Scalded Dog" will look more like the real deal than Romney or Huckabee.

That he is not GQ, is a distinct advantage.

IF you commit yourself now, you won't be able to be objective later on when it is more important and critical.

I see things in much the same way. My support in the Primary round is contingent upon the candidate's words and actions paralleling my own political beliefs as closely as possible. I would certainly change my support in the lead up to the Primary if a candidate subsequently proved to be nearer my positions than my original favorite.

However, once the nomination issue has been decided and the nominee is engaged in the campaign proper, I will give that nominee my full support.

I just watched Fox News Sunday and two or three times they mentioned that the Senate voted to send Gen Petraus to command the fight in Iraq. I thought the vote was to confirm his promotion to 4 star. Anybody here who can shed some light on that?

I would say over half the possible candidates for our side are o.k. guys the one I could not stomach would be McCain, I could not take him.He has sold us down the river one too many times and is a complete ego maniac.

We certainly have not had a news force do a decent job of explaining that Senate confirmation! I think that he got a fourth star to go with his new job, and the Senate has to approve that raise, not the appointment, per se.

I could be way off base, though.

Adlai ran against DDE both times. You're right...Eisenhower was courted by both parties because of his immense popularity as a general. Not much was known of his politics.

The first time they ran against one another, there was a perception that Adlai had a chance. He lost badly. The second time, he was a sacrificial lamb as DDE was very popular and the dems realized no one could beat him.

Adlai was an attractive, charming man and not very much like the democrats of today.

I disagree with you on Hunter. I think he could be a good CIC,as could Rudy. I still have one goal---not Hillary.

I am ready and willing to support whomever we choose(I just hope it ain't McCain however).Problem is we need to remember that we really don't elect a President. Neither do the lib rats, it's the squishy middle that gets the job done.The independents. Like it or not that's how politics are these days. We had many shots since 41 to make the Republican party more conservative and we blew each and every one. That's why so many people kept(and still are) dropping out. Not wanting anything to do with the rats we have a huge independent group that now nominates the next president.

My impression is that people are rushing the stage to jump on the bandwagon. If you get it stuck in your head for one candidate especially at the swooning level I see going on here on the FR in the last couple of weeks, it could spell disaster. He may be a great Congressman, but so was Mark Foley, and Newt, but I would not vote for them for President. People are getting too excited because he is your ideal candidate, and there is a hunger out there. He may have been mine had I not considered how the Electorate Votes. We may agree on almost everything, but How we think is not how the entire Electorate thinks. Consider that Conservatives (and Liberals) are a minority portion of America that is why we need the squishy middle where I am sorry to say Hunter will not fly. I wish he would. I want to win everything in 2008. I voted for Ronald Reagan twice when I was still a Democrat, I voted for Nixon twice as a Democrat. I was too Young to vote before that. I never considered Reagan too old, he was always ageless and a Joy to watch and listen to. I lived in Washington Dc when LBJ was President, Robert McNamara was My Boss, two Brothers went to Vietnam one while I worked at the Pentagon. We had bomb threats every day. I never want to happen to these Men and women what happened to The Vietnam Vets because of the Rats, and the anti War pukes. Back then it was just wild weirdos that were crazy anti war people, today it is almost al lthe Elected Rats. We need to Keep the White House in Republican hands. We can use Hunter to slap the slop out of them on the Campaign trail, and get the natives restless, but remember pragmatism.........

It is a race between clinton and carter as to who was the absolute worst, it's almost a tie.

Those middle-aged women gushing about Bill Clinton---beyond disgusting he is totally gross.

HOWEVER, some of us young to middle-age women get a little starry eyed about how CUTE George W. Bush is and we really like to look at pictures of him, but ... (on the Day in the Life thread)

Well, the difference is that GWB is cute and manly and not trash.

But really, Bubba was not that popular. Never got a majority of the vote.

He's more popular with the dems in retrospect because he is their last winner.

And he is a huge name and a good fund raiser, but if Hillary does get the nomination, his bad points, and they are many, will be revisited.

I am giving JMHO based on everything I see and hear. That is fine to say he has the best ideas, etc, and I like him the best until someone better comes along. We have to then look ahead to after the Primaries, if we pick someone that the DBM can beat up as being a Radical right Winger we will go down in flames. I do not think he is, that is what Buchanan is, and he is to the left of Buchanan. I do not know if Rudy could get through the Primary, I know Mccain will not. We need to think long and hard, and look at all the angles. That is what I am trying to do.

The most impressive thing about the Chris Wallace interview with Senator Brownback was the absolute hard line grilling he gave him. It will be interesting to see if Wallace adopts that same tone with Senator Clinton when he has contact with her. Senator Brownback seemed to have not been prepared for any questions, soft or hard. Maybe he has become unsettled by the loud voice of petition signers who have agreed to stop contributing money for Republicans like himself who will not support President Bush in this WOT.
