I agree, except Ford went from Congressman to VP after Agnew quit, and then became President after Nixon resigned. He pardoned Nixon and the voters dumped him for the very worst President ever.

A very Conservative Nominee cannot win Nationwide despite what we hear about Reagan and GWB...I really do not like it, but the electorate will not elect a socially Conservative, fiscally moderate Hunter, they only would if those views were turned around.

I cannot argue with the likelihood of this scenario. Of course, this leads directly to the unpleasant deduction that there may be no specific, Pub candidate with any chance of success. Will a large enough portion of the Conservative base swallow hard and vote for a Giuliani etc.? Will those with objections to a leader with strong religious ties go for a Huckabee etc.? I would say that we are quite possibly between the bull and the bees.

Until such time as a Pub candidate appears who more adequately stands for strong national security, of which border control etc. is a prime factor, and for moral standards which also make a nation secure- it's Hunter for me.

Yeah that was such a serious thought full commentary.

Typical of every single one of your posts. How about you try actually responding with some intellectual valid commentary ONE time instead of continually wasting our time with your arrogant rabidly stupid inane know nothing about anything trailer trash rantings? Your posts are nothing but an utter waste of your time and our bandwith.

As I pointed out, if you would ever bother to read the posts, rather the mindlessly post the same asinine inane drivel over and over because you are too arrogantly stupid to bother to LEARN anything you would of noted I made a point that he is a Congress critter as opposed to a Senator. We have not run a Congress critter who was NOT a Senator. A point I made that as usual went right over your arrogantly stupid pig head.

How about you try ONE time actually posting a rational useful response instead of mindlessly posting your arrogant stupidity and mindless ranting over and over and over and over and over and over and over?

A thought? ONE time? Come on Lead, if you try really really really hard you can do it. So how about a THOUGHT instead of the same mindless drivel you post? ONE time before you die? ONE thought? Come ON Lead YOU can do it! Actually TRY thinking instead of just emotion ONE time.

Not dollar signs, lol. But I do see him as an articulate defender of GOP policies. I was just worried that the MSM would be able to tarnish him but on second thought, and after you and MNJohnnie reinforced my leanings a few things became clearer:

- National security will be a major issue. This plays well for Hunter and would make the others, even Huckabee look week
- Hunter is the only effective defender of conservative philosophy
- he can't be brandished as an extremist with Tancredo (another good guy) in the race - some were even mentioning that Tancredo may be in the race for precisely that reason.
Stehanopoulous asked Hunter about this today and he answered well.

Ya, we conservatives have to rally behind someone quickly and Hunter seems the best there is, even politically. Thanks for helping at least me and hopefully many others realize this.

Pragmatism will win the Day, and a 24-7 news Cycle will be perfect for the Rats to trash any real Conservative with a Conservative voting record. We may not like it, but until the DBM is completely Dead we will have to put up with their crappola aided by McCain/Finegold. It certainly gave them the leg up, and every day they seem to be feeling their oats more, no matter how they are tanking in Stocks Ratings, circulation, Viewer ship, they seem to be on an insane quest (heading for the toilet) that will not end until all the Judges, President, House and Senate are Lefties, or they are run totally out of Business. There is always George Sorass to help them financially.

Understood. President Ford was never elected to the presidency or as VP. He was appointed as VP, ascended to the presidency and lost reelection. I do not take anything away from the Ford presidency and I appreciate his service and efforts. But, he never won an election to that position. President Ford also caved too often to Democrat pressure and public opinion, IMHO.

President Ford was too conciliatory, I agree. However, he was NOT the worst President ever. In our time, Carter and Clinton are were much worse. Ford did NOT sell us out to the Chinese nor did he abuse the Oval Office. Compared to Carter, Ford did NOT leave us with double digit inflation, unemployment and interest rates. NOR did Ford abandon Iran, which many people believe began our current problems in the Middle East.

Lincoln was born in 1809, there was no 24-7 News Media Cycles then, and they did not have the internet. They did not have the DBM. I rely on what I see in the last couple of decades, but even that was mostly before the 24-7 hateful DBM. You need someone that can appeal to the most people, and sad to say, but freepers are not the majority of the American People. Yet!!!!

I guess I will plead to being seduced by his resume and his media skills. After the last decade of watching painfully PR inept Republicans, I desperately long for a Newt or a Haley Barbour or a Reagan to step up to the plate as an unapologetic, passionate supporter of Convervativism.

I also see a political angle. This sneering dismissal by the Washington Political Media complex as as a "no chance" candidate HELPS him with the Conservative base. The Base neither likes nor trusts DC nor the Junk Media. Being disliked by them is resume enhancement for a Conservative.

So down side? Well of course political baggage. He is a Congress critter and has a voting record. But then SO DOES every single candidate being put forward. So is Hunter perfect? NO but he is the best we got NOW and until someone better comes along I suggest people start seriously considering him.

I applaud your courage. Most people attempt to hide their moronic natures but not YOU. NO, you FLAUNT your morondom. You proudly cruise the Free Republic squealing "I AM THE WORLDS LARGEST IDIOT". I must say I have NEVER seen anyone so willing to make peace with a painful personal truth as you have embraced your imbecility. Well done brave soul!

You know what happens in Heart surgery that takes many hours. Under that much anesthesia it is damaging to the Brain. Look at Bob Graham, unlike Rush Limbaugh having half his brain tied behind his back, Graham sounded like it, and he quit the Senate after looking really Foolish running for President. I think Slick Willy looks really bad and judging by his comments, he sounds really off. I thought that those quotes were Satire. Hillary may have to gag him.

Agreed. Thankfully, we have the Primary process to possibly nudge us along that path. The candidate that emerges will probably have the best chance. Much of the discussion today, it seems to me, belongs in the pre-primary category; and that is a good thing. I am on record as intending to support the Pub nominee, even if I have to get my nostrils fused prior to voting.

I finally watched a Sunday program. In this case it was Fox News Sunday.

I listened to Senator Brownback quite carefully. He is a guarded person who waffles on the issues and has no satisfatory explanation for his support for the non-binding, surge resolution. He seems to believe in some sort of bipartisanship that includes avoiding any possibility of victory.

As a candidate he seems to respond to polls. Chris Wallace pointed out his switch on abortion and the Senator listed his chief attributes as being 100% for the social conservative positions. In this he wears these positions like clothes always able to take some off and put others on. Definitely does not make good contact on the TV and he seems to be weak and vascillating no matter how he tries not to be.

Senator Lieberman was another story. I shudder what he would do to the Pubbies if he were the RAT Presidential candidate. He makes good contact, has depth, answers honestly and has a solid warm, contactful demeanor that is not possible to fake. He is formidable and I can easily see now why he beat Lamont so badly. He is a man of substance and neither Lamont or, for that matter, Brownback are.

First impressions and personal impressions are often denigrated. Actually, through thousands of generations we have learned to read others immediately if we permit ourselves.

As a final pleasant thought. I note that H. Clinton tried to indicate she was used to dealing with evil men and the audience burst into laughter. Someone should get that tape and we should play it often. It tells everything you need to know about how people really feel when they listen to her. She is not viable candidate if she has to be spontaneous in her interactions with others. A hard, calculating, ruthless persona is easy to sense.

If I were the Republican National Committee, I would secure copies of the "Velveteen Rabbit" and act accordingly. This simple child's story is all about what it takes to be real--neither Brownback or Hillary are real.

Ya know, it's one thing to show the board that you are unable to understand the different meanings of Representative, Congressman and Senator, but it's truly tragic when someone tries to correct your error, and all you do is make a bigger fool of yourself. Carry on, I enjoy watching you flop around.
