Taliban warn of summer offensive

Sat Jan 27, 8:36 AM ET

KABUL (Reuters) - The Taliban is gearing up for a massive summer offensive, with more than 2,000 suicide bombers ready for action and even more preparing, a senior commander said on Saturday.

The warning comes a day after a top U.S. diplomat warned Afghanistan was in for a bloody and dangerous spring after the bloodiest year since the hardline Islamist Taliban was ousted by U.S.-led forces in 2001.

"The Taliban will intensify their guerrilla and suicide strikes this summer," Mulla Hayat Khan told Reuters from a secret location. "This will be a bloodiest year for foreign troops."

He said 2,000 suicide bombers were ready -- about 40 percent of the total suicide force -- adding numbers were so high it was sometimes hard to find enough explosives and targets.

"Our war preparations have been completed to a large extent and we're waiting for summer to set in," Khan said.

More than 4,000 people died last year, a quarter of them civilians, as the resurgent Taliban fought back with what NATO generals said was surprising ferocity.

Calling the guerrillas virulent and tough, U.S. assistant secretary of state for south and central Asia Richard Boucher on Friday warned the spring would be bloody and dangerous after the traditional winter lull in fighting.

"I think we will face a strong offensive and will have a difficult and dangerous and bloody spring," he told BBC radio as NATO foreign ministers discussed Afghanistan's future at a summit in Brussels called by Washington.

"But we are also better set up to deal with it."

While urging NATO allies to do more, the United States has extended troop tours of duty -- effectively boosting its forces by 2,500 -- and announced $10.6 billion in extra aid for Afghan security forces and reconstruction.

Looks like there are some more Jihadis to be turned into minced meat, 5.56 style.

These guys are full of it! They're already getting their butts kicked and NATO's own "Spring Offensive" will do even more damage. They're just putting out their propaganda to an all too willing media...

You know....I've always heard we couldn't fight these guys because they were better acclimated to the climate and altitude. Now, they can only (threaten to) fight in the summer? The only offenive they can mount in the warm months is one to the olfactory system.

Can't these guys get it together enough for at least a spring offensive?

I did hear Bahdad Bob had gotten a job as Taliban spokeman. Their idea of an offensive is to send teenage Paki's to their deaths with the result being that they usually only kill civilians. The Afghan people are really the ones taking the brunt of this, not the troops. The Afghan people are the ones who will have to stnad up against these crazed Jihadi's, and we will be there to help.

I was thinking of Warthogs, AC-130 Spectre's and a few Blackhawks here and there.

Unless we do something about the pakistani bases, they can fight forever.

Offensive.
They keep using that word. I do not think it means what they think it means.

They issued almost the exact same release last year.

I think the result was somewhere along the lines of thousands of dead jihadis.

Islamics don't warn of impending attacks. They're just coming out with this crap because they know that: 1)Every news media outlet will print their garbage, and 2) They know that the MSM is allowing them to win the PR victory.

Where do I go to get my taliban hunting license? Anybody know when the season starts and what is the limit per day? Do I need a Mohammad stamp?

The taliban want more of this? They've been getting mauled the last year or so. I guess there's nothing for the kiddies to do when the madrassah's out.

Last year the NY Slimes warned us of the Taliban Spring Offensive and they got their butts kicked.

This year it looks like the Taliban would rather die in the warmer Summer Offensive.

I would love for our intelligence agencies to disguise
themselves as Reuters reporters ,who apparently have connections with these goat rapists , arrange a press
breifing with them then slaughter the goat rapists
with ricin, anthrax or some other extremely painful
method of martyrdom actualization.

"More than 4,000 people died last year, a quarter of them civilians, as the resurgent Taliban fought back with what NATO generals said was surprising ferocity."

Bill Roggio on the Fourth Rail said that about 3500 killed have been terrorists plus the 1000 civilians from this article=4500. Fortunately our casualties are very low, though I wish they were 0 of course. NATO casualties are very low, Afghan Army casualties are very low. So it seems that most of the people who have died "ferociously' are terrorists or civilians killed by terrorists. Yet the msm and the dems think we are losing because we are focused on Iraq rather than looking for bin-laden

Here's an idea. Start a Taliban Safari and charge hunters to take trips to Afghanistan to bag Taliban. I bet you'd have more takers than you'd expect. Take out a million dollar life insurance on each hunter and you have a money-making enterprise either way the hunt goes.
