Tens of thousands of demonstrators from across the country are expected to converge in Washington today to urge the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq as President Bush is proposing to send more troops in an effort to stabilize the country.
They plan to rally on the Mall, march around the north side of the Capitol and send a strong message to the government.
The event, which authorities said could draw 100,000 people, starts with a rally at 11 a.m. Among those expected to address the crowd are Jane Fonda, Danny Glover, Susan Sarandon and Jesse Jackson.
The march, organized by the group United for Peace and Justice, is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
~~snip~~
Fifty to 100 members of the Washington chapter of the conservative organization FreeRepublic.com plan to rally near the U.S. Navy Memorial to oppose the march and the participation of Jane Fonda, the chapter said. The actress has long been the object of conservative ire for her support of North Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
"These groups are the ones that are acting as the political arm of the terrorists overseas to help bring about America's defeat in the war on terror," said Kristinn Taylor of FreeRepublic.com.

""These groups are the ones that are acting as the political arm of the terrorists overseas to help bring about America's defeat in the war on terror," said Kristinn Taylor of FreeRepublic.com."
99% of these malcontents don,t give a crap about it. They are professional protesters who will gather on a dime. They just want to make Bush look bad no matter what.

U.S. troops plan to attend Iraq protest (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070126/ap_on_go_ot/iraq_protest_1)
(snip) WASHINGTON - A small number of active military troops will take part in Saturday's rally in Washington against the Iraq war, co-founders of an active-duty protest group say.
One of the founders of Appeal for Redress, Navy Petty Officer Jonathan Hutto (John Effin Kerry II), said he planned to speak at the protest on the National Mall. Hutto is a sailor aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, currently at Norfolk, Va.
United For Peace and Justice, an anti-war coalition of 1,400 organizations, said the protest could draw tens of thousands of demonstrators in all.
Hutto and Liam Madden, a Marine sergeant who received his discharge Jan. 20, founded Appeal for Redress, an organization of 1,200 active-duty personnel and veterans who favor a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq.
Hutto said 60 percent of the members have been in Iraq operations. He said he was on the Roosevelt off Iraq from September 2005 through March 2006. Madden said he was in Anbar Province from September 2004 to February 2005.
Hutto estimated more than a dozen individuals on active duty would attend Saturday.
****
Hope they throw Hutto in the brig!
This ain't the sixties. Uncle Walter is long gone, as is Ho Chi Minh.
Woo hoo!! Go DC Chapter!!"

San Antonio
Being on a Carrier off Iraq isnt exactly like being in Iraq.
Active military are allowed to protest? What is this?
Go DC Chapter!!
Isn't it a rule where active duty personel are not supposed to give their pollitical opinions? Wouldn't this be a form of that?
The dozen individuals should also end up in the brig.
RED HOT MADCONSERV in Wisconsin.
Whish I could be there. I am in my heart and soul.
The left often can get 10,000 or more demonstrators. It is routine. I have seen their buses load at the Home Depot parking lot near my house.
They are well organized and financed but there is a disconnect between what they want and the results they get. They would rather act out a delayed teenage rebellion against all things American and feature polarizing figures like Fonda whose presence will stiffen resistance than actually win.
I wish I could be there. Our troops need to see that the people they're fighting for are fighting for them. Those fighting against them need to be dealt with. Harshly.
Even if Hutto changes his mind, and doesn't attend, can't he still be thrown in the brig based on his political announcement to the press, and other subversive activities?
As far as I know, so long as Hutto does not wear his uniform, he's free to exercise his First Amendment rights.
But, I would think he will be held accountable by the Navy for any inappropriate remarks he publicly makes during his speech.
