Confidence in Bush Leadership at All-Time Low, Poll Finds President Bush will deliver his State of the Union address on Tuesday at the weakest point of his presidency, facing deep public dissatisfaction over his Iraq war policies and eroding confidence in his leadership, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. With a major confrontation between Congress and the president brewing over Iraq, Americans overwhelmingly oppose Bush's plan to send an additional 21,500 troops to the conflict. By wide margins, they prefer that congressional Democrats, who now hold majorities in both chambers, rather than the president, take the lead in setting the direction for the country. Iraq dominates the national agenda, with 48 percent of Americans calling the war the single most important issue they want Bush and the Congress to deal with this year. No other issue rises out of single digits. The poll also found that the public trusts congressional Democrats over Bush to deal with the conflict by a margin of 60 percent to 33 percent. The president will use his speech to try to rally public opinion behind the troop deployment plan, but during the past 10 days he has made no headway in changing public opinion. The Post-ABC poll shows that 65 percent of Americans oppose sending more troops to Iraq; it was 61 percent immediately after the president unveiled the plan on Jan. 10 in a nationally televised address. The Senate plans to take up a nonbinding bipartisan resolution opposing the president's new plan for troop deployments. But many Democrats in both chambers advocate even stronger measures designed to block the deployment of the additional troops, including capping the number of troops at their levels of Jan. 1 or putting strings on the money for the new troops......

Calling the doctor to this thread.
When we allow liberals to destroy good men... I wonder what our future holds.
Sixty percent of the people do not understand the Constitution.
Yes
He cut my taxes, fought the terrorists, got a more conservative Supreme Court, opened up more area for oil drilling, etc.
Maybe if conservatives would actually pause to recognize what he's done, instead of bitching about how they've been "dumped on", they'd have a little more confidence.
Predictably, the MSM is using its 'manufactured' polls to convince the American public that EVERYONE is against both the War in Iraq and President Bush . . . Don't believe it!
I encourage you to review new polling results from the most respected INDEPENDENT pollster in the business today:
THE BATTLEGROUND POLL 2007
Among other things, you will discover the following:
WAR IN IRAQ
46% war worth fighting
48% war not worth fighting
[. . . a even spit rather than a 70% majority against!]
53% of electorate coalesce around the President's stated goal of forces staying until the situation is confirmed stable (32%) or the President's plan for a troop surge to stabilize the situation quickly (21%) -- hardly looks like a repudiation of the President's approach to me?!
PRESIDENT BUSH
42% JA rating
45% Favorability rating
[FYI: For survey respondents, job approval and favorability ratings have become synonymous!]
61% LIKABILITY RATING
[FYI: The Battleground Poll remains the only poll that consistently tracks a president's 'likability rating'. All MSM pollsters produced likability ratings until their boy Clinton became president and couldn't get his LR above 40%!]
BattleGround Poll: Republican Strategic Analysis
By Ed Goeas
"Continuing a trend seen throughout his Presidency, the (President's) personal approval rating remains high at sixty-one (61%) of likely voters approving of him personally, a sign that the President has an opening to at some point move his image and JA rating net positive. On this measure 93% of Republicans and 56% of Independents approve of him. The President continues to have a considerable amount of personal good will not only with his base Republican voters, but also with those key Independent voters."

Nah - they'd be lower.
THANK YOU!!!!
The remaining forty percent are lawyers litigating it.
Make mine a double. As far as I'm concerned, his disregard for our border is an impeachable offense.
Stop taking all of these BS polls seriously, people. The lefties in the media print them twice a day just for the pure propaganda value. The only polls that mattered were in Nov 2000 and Nov 2004. Bush can finish out his presidency at freaking 0% approval rating for all that it matters now.
Do you have the breakdown of respondents by party? Likely 66 percent dems.
It's disturbing. I used to be the biggest supporter of President Bush. I still want to believe he is a good man, but the last couple of years - he and the Republican leadership have gone out of their way to make me mad at them!
What happened? Does the man have a brain tumor or something? We almost had it all in the palm of our hand & now it's gone.
I am sure I will get flamed but.....I think that Pres. Bush has managed to what is near impossible - tick a whole lot of people off. Be it the war, spending, immigration, just to name three there is some group or a whole lot of people that are very disappointed in him about something. I think a big part of his problem is he forgot who brought him to the dance.
That is one policy that I disagree with the President on tremendously. Something is just not correct when the leader of America, refuses too shut illegals out. I don't understand this.
