As Dan Balz and I wrote in today's Post, presidential candidates on both sides are focused heavily on bolstering their Internet presence through a variety of new tools, including video, podcasts and even online video chats.
To brainstorm and implement these new innovations, the campaigns are chasing after a small group of people in their 20s and early 30s versed in the language of the new media.
One of the real "gets" on the GOP side of that world is Patrick Ruffini, who served as the Web master of President Bush's 2004 reelection campaign and then served in a similar role at the Republican National Committee. Ruffini gained recognition in national Republican circles for his blog, which was one of the first serious attempts on the Republican side at building an online community.
Ruffini has signed on with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign as an e-campaign adviser. The hiring is only the latest sign that Giuliani is serious about a run for national office in 2008.
In building a national staff, Giuliani has recruited a number of former Bush operatives to his cause -- the latest being Brent Seaborn, who will be the director of strategy for the campaign. Seaborn was intimately involved in the microtargeting efforts credited with growing the number of Republican votes for Bush in 2004. Seaborn was a co-founder of TargetPoint Consulting, which specialized in microtargeting and data mining.

Oh, and I'm sure some were signed on BEFORE the poll.
Can you believe that a freeper doesn't think that Romney, Giuliani, Clinton, Edwards, etc. have sent any of their supporters to this web site. I think I'm going to bash my head against the wall.
How could they not know this?
Thet're either lying or they're in denial.
As I recall, Rudy believes that gun control, of whatever stripe, should be the responsibility of the states, not the federal government.
Seems to me that some of the NRA-types on FR are going off half-cocked (if you'll excuse the pun) regarding Rudy's view on guns.
Thanks for posting. It's absurd for some on FR to say that "the base" will never support Rudy, when 69% of the members of FreeRepublic say they'll vote for Rudy over Hillary. All the talk about how "the base" (whoever "the base" is) will stay home is flat-out wrong, and that poll proves it.
Then there's the 30% who will stay home or vote third party and the 1% who will actually vote for EVIL. That's enough to help elect her.
This is interesting.
The Unappeasables were saying that the majority of FR would not for Rudy. Not true.
It sure looked that way when the poll was posted, but of course, people "can" and do change their minds.
See post #99. He thinks Ginsberg is a great Justice.
Yes WOT is important, but to me those issues are more important
I have not gone third party yet. At this time I am supporting Duncan Hunter. And there are others I like but not as well. But I can never support Rino Rudy.
31% of Freepers say they'll either sit it out, stay home, or vote for Hillary. But the percentage of the real "base" who will do that is probably only about 0.02% of the electorate. For all their huffing-and-puffing, I've never been convinced that the naysayers on FR represent more than an insignificant whiff among all voters...certainly not enough to sway an election.

"That is not the critical factor. And what's important to me is to have a very intelligent, very honest, very good lawyer on the court. And he (Roberts) fits that category, in the same way Justice Ginsburg fit that category.
I mean, she was she maybe came at it from a very different political background, very qualified lawyer, very smart person. Lots of Republicans supported her. I expect, and listening to Senator Nelson, I expect that John Roberts will get support from a lot of Democrats."
If FR polls named the president, we might have President Buchanan, no?
You mean the guy who got 0.5% of the vote in '00? Yeah, I see your point.

Im pro-choice. Im pro-gay rights, Giuliani said. He was then asked whether he supports a ban on what critics call partial-birth abortions. No, I have not supported that, and I dont see my position on that changing, he responded. Source: CNN.com, Inside Politics Dec 2, 1999 http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Rudy_Giuliani_Abortion.htm

RUDY GIULIANI (R), FORMER MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY: I'm pro- choice. I'm pro-gay rights.KING: Giuliani supports a woman's right to an abortion, and back in 1999, he opposed a federal ban on late-term abortions.
GIULIANI: No, I have not supported that, and I don't see my position on that changing.

Republican Big-Wigs Support Pro-Abortion Event in NY
Pro-abortion Governor George Pataki and New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who also supports unrestricted abortion, are co-chairs of the 2000 Choice Award Presentation to be held on May 30 at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City. The event is sponsored by the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition, a group that is campaigning for the removal of the pro-life plank from the Republican National Platform.
