As Dan Balz and I wrote in today's Post, presidential candidates on both sides are focused heavily on bolstering their Internet presence through a variety of new tools, including video, podcasts and even online video chats.
To brainstorm and implement these new innovations, the campaigns are chasing after a small group of people in their 20s and early 30s versed in the language of the new media.
One of the real "gets" on the GOP side of that world is Patrick Ruffini, who served as the Web master of President Bush's 2004 reelection campaign and then served in a similar role at the Republican National Committee. Ruffini gained recognition in national Republican circles for his blog, which was one of the first serious attempts on the Republican side at building an online community.
Ruffini has signed on with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign as an e-campaign adviser. The hiring is only the latest sign that Giuliani is serious about a run for national office in 2008.
In building a national staff, Giuliani has recruited a number of former Bush operatives to his cause -- the latest being Brent Seaborn, who will be the director of strategy for the campaign. Seaborn was intimately involved in the microtargeting efforts credited with growing the number of Republican votes for Bush in 2004. Seaborn was a co-founder of TargetPoint Consulting, which specialized in microtargeting and data mining.

I vote for Republicans for the same reason the Reagan Democrats generally switched parties--because the GOP positioned itself as the party of family values. If the contest were between Rudy and Nancy Pelosi, I think Nancy could plausibly claim to exemplify those values better than Rudy does. I wouldn't vote for either of them, but it wouldn't upset me at all if Nancy won.
When asked about his view on gun control, he said that since 9/11, priorities have changed.
Now, you can be cynical and say he skirted the issue, or if you think Giuliani is reasonably forthright, you would say, O.K., he's off the gun issue. We'll find out for sure in the debates, but as an NRA member, I'm not too concerned that Rudy wants the Police to start knocking on doors.
For me it's all about terrorism so I will take Rudy any day. The rest of the stuff to me is of little consequence if we aren't around! I think Rudy would be the best in the fight against terror. I don't think Mitt or Brownback would stand a chance. I'm very concerned about the 08 elections. Can you imagine a Dem in the White House in the war on terror?! Very scary!
Got a source or a name?
Rudy was a very strict law and order prosecutor and mayor. Hard to imagine he'd appoint a liberal.
YEP!
The argument is as follows - if your ideal candidate does not win the primary - what will you do, support the Republican or stomp your little feet and go third party, thus creating another "Perot effect"?
This is Hillary we are talking about - I am astonished that on this site of all sites that memory of what she is and what she has done is so poor. Anyone who was around for Impeachment knows that she must be denied power - it's very cavalier for some people to dismiss the threat she represents with a wave of a hand. People thought that about Bill in 1992...and look what happened.
Some lessons should not be repeated. It lies within the power of people like those here to prevent them being repeated. But it requires people wake up and stop thinking they can get everything they want.

Couldn't get a better person IMHO!

"Rudy was a very strict law and order prosecutor and mayor. Hard to imagine he'd appoint a liberal."
Got a source for that? I seem to recall him pushing through asset forfeiture policies and defiantly refusing to obey judicial orders regarding illegal immigration. Here are a few of his quotes. I "do" provide sources.
"Freedom is about authority." Mayor Giuliani, NY Times 3/17/94
"You don't have a right not to be identified". Giuliani- NY Times 12/17/98 "Giuliani Backs DNA Testing of Newborns for Identification"
"An exhibition of paintings is not as communicative as speech, literature or live entertainment, and the artists' constitutional interest is thus minimal." - Giuliani appeal brief 's argument against street artists having First Amendment rights, Giuliani v Lederman et al and Giuliani v Bery et al, filed with the US Supreme Court 2/24/97.
"The whole school system should be blown up, and a new one put in its place. I feel like a prophet today." Giuliani-Daily News 4/23/99
"Let's say somebody is acquitted, and it's one of those acquittals in which the person was guilty, but there is just not quite enough evidence beyond a reasonable doubt," the Mayor said. "That might be a situation in which the car would still be forfeited." - Giuliani, NY Times 2/23/99 "Police Seize Three Cars in Crackdown"
Nonsense. Rudy took my gun and gave it to a gay abortionist. I would rather see PeeWee Herman in the White House. /s
He didn't say she was an ideal justice. He said:
she maybe came at it from a very different political background, very qualified lawyer, very smart person.
So then he would not have a problem with her?? If he thought her too liberal, he would have said that. After all, he is a man who speaks his mind.
Fair enough.
That's the bottom line for me. If we teach the social, moral issues to our children at home, future generations will do just fine.
You didn't mention the W.O.T. Is that not THE most important issue of today? Rather odd, I must say.
Well, for starters, A Hillary administration would weaken the Patriot Act, just from the fact that she has to appoint a bunch of hacks from the Clinton I administration.
Similar, huh? Patooey!
Not sure I get your point?
Oh joy.
