A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos): 1.19.07
yahoo.com, whitehouse.gov ^ | Friday January 19, 2007 | GretchenM

Posted on 01/19/2007 4:40:49 PM PST by GretchenM

I found no new photos of the president today but there are some photos of Laura in Paris, at the conference on Missing and Exploited Children. As Tony Snow's assistant conducted the press briefing today, and the State of the Union address is next Tuesday, January 23rd at 9:00 PM EST, it seems likely it is crunch time for getting the address ready.

Defense Secretary Gates continues his visit to Iraq, in Basra and Talil, where he is being briefed.

Jay Hein, Director of the WH Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, discussed the President's compassion agenda and the recently launched Compassion in Action Roundtables.

Text of Dana Perino's press briefing today (information on SoTU).

Were you the Doser who found the way to stack your wood to keep pests out, and had laid up a good supply of wood for this winter?

Here's some non-allergic soap (or the closest I could find)

It's the anti-Dove :)

That was extremely thoughtful of you. Vanicream -- will I disappear if I use it? (Does it have secret powers?)

I asked my allergist for soap recommendations; I use Basis whenever I can find it.

Vanicream sounds great and isn't expensive. I'll look around for it.

MUST READ . . .

Another keeper from Mark Noonan:

DEMOCRATS WARN BUSH AGAINST WINNING WAR
By Mark Noonan at 05:49 PM

Democratic leaders in Congress, worried that victory in the War on Terrorism might harm their electoral prospects in 2008, gave aid and comfort to the Iranians by demanding President Bush get their never-gonna-happen permission before taking action against Iran.

"The president does not have the authority to launch military action in Iran without first seeking congressional authorization," Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told the National Press Club.

While Democrats have managed to round up a few Republican bed-wetters to support their counter-productive anti-war resolution, Democrats realise that there isn't majority support for engineering defeat in Iraq. Democrats are seeking ways and means to prevent victory without having to take the blame for scuttling the Iraq mission. In service of this goal, the Democratic Co-Chair of the Iraq Surrender Group tried to make talking with Iran's lunatic "President" seem reasonable: "Do we have so little confidence in the diplomats of the United States that we're not willing to let them talk with somebody we disagree with?" Hamilton asked. For Hamilton, "disagree" covers such thing as Iran's desire to wipe Israel off the map. While sources couldn't confirm or deny, it seems that for the Hamiltons of the world, compromise is always possible. What is unknown is just how many Jews Hamilton will allow the Iranians to kill in order to secure peace.

Meanwhile, Speaker Pelosi, asked for comment, had a strange way of keeping up the bipartisan spirit she pledged herself to when elevated to the Speakership: "(Bush) has dug a hole so deep he can't even see the light on this. It's a tragedy. It's a stark blunder", Pelosi said. Sources were unable to say whether liberating 25 million people from tyranny was the tragedy, or whether it was the ending of Saddam's support for suicide bombing in Israel which consituted the blunder. When pressed for comment about the Democrats plan for Iraq, Pelosi was nowhere to be seen.

Recommendations please - I am almost finished with The Letters of John and Abigail Adams (abridged), and am sorry to come to the end of such a delightful volume. It covers the years from 1774 - 1783 (with not many letters from 1780 to 1783).

Have you read any other volumes of the Adams' family correspondence? If so, do you have others you recommend besides the one I'm now finishing?

***Were you the Doser who found the way to stack your wood to keep pests out, and had laid up a good supply of wood for this winter?***

I'm not sure I was that Doser. But I did have a conversation with TomMix about it. The catch is that the Town says the wood has to be in a rack so many inches off the ground to avoid rats camping under it, and NO store sells one like that. I can get one on the internet, but my $800 tree cutting down left us with so many logs that neither I nor my son who is handicapped can possibly hoist them all onto a rack. LOL! We had a terrible storm which brought down so many trees (the ground up trees were enough to fill three football fields about ten feet high, and there are ten thousand more trees to be cut down because they are so destroyed.) So I doubt that the Town inspectors will be fining us for improper storage of logs. I hope!

So, the answer is get a rack that is several inches off the ground to avoid rats camping there. Whew! Why didn't I just give you the short answer?

Drugstore.com has Basis Soap at a very reasonable price.
I wasted so much time and gas looking for it all over the
DC area. I won't use anything else for the entire family.

Snugs, totally easy to donate at any time to FR. Being in the States, if I want to donate and it's not FReepathon time, I just mail a check to JimRob at the FR address at the bottom of each page. If you want to use PayPal, you might check with JimRob, onyx, or one of the other FReepathon Meisters.

They keep saying that Iraq is another Vietnam. Is it?

Where are the riots.. Where are the tens of thousands of protesters marching in the streets.

Where are the Kent States with the National Guard called out in order to maintain order on college campuses.

Where is the equivalent of the students chanting by the thousands. "Hey Hey LBJ How many people did you kill today"

Where are the huge protests of the war in Iraq?

There are only a few.and they are mostly conducted by 60 something hippies. I have heard that some of them have even bathed at least once since Vietnam. But we know that what they do stinks.

What we have is primarily the media and academia that are really opposed to the war in Iraq.

Consider that it was the Washington post blowing the Virginia campaign out of the water and the corruption of the Taft administration in Ohio that gave the Democrats the Senate. Without those two things it would have been a Republican Senate 51 to 49.

If you look at the house races you will see what the anti-illegal immigration story did to Republican chances.

A significant number of anti illegal immigration candidates lost..

Has it occurred to anyone to ask why the illegal Mexican immigration situation became such a big issue in the press in 2006? It had been going on since the last Mexican immigration bill was passed way back in the Reagan Administration.

During the Clinton administration and the first 5 years of the Bush administration millions of illegal Mexicans came to the USA with out the media or the Democrats making a whimper.

It was widely reported that from the early nineties to the 2004 election the number of citizens of Mexican descent who voted Republican had grown from the teens to over 35 percent. It was expected that the Mexican vote would go well over 40 percent for Republicans in 2008.

Once that number went over 50 percent the Democrats chances of winning control of the house, senate or the presidency were reduced slim and none.

It seems to me that Democrats and the media were well aware of that fact. And used that knowledge to split a few percent of support from the Republican party.

I think the media knew what they were doing with Mexican immigration and Iraqi war coverage. It contributed to the Loss of the House and senate.
