WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States has signaled to Gulf Arab allies that an attack on Iran could take place in 2007.
Diplomatic sources said the Bush administration has raised the prospect of a U.S. strike on Iran over the next few months. The sources said the discussions with Gulf Cooperation Council states have also been conducted by U.S. Central Command as well as the U.S. intelligence community.
"There has not been a U.S. commitment, but the discussions have been interpreted as an expression of intent," the source said. "Right now, the U.S. message is that the GCC must get ready for any contingency."
On Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice meets foreign ministers from the GCC states as well as Egypt and Jordan. The sources said Ms. Rice intends to brief the foreign ministers on U.S. strategy toward Iraq and Iran in a meeting scheduled to take place in Kuwait.
You are correct, remember, not that many years ago we destroyed their entire navy in about 24 hours. Missles will be a short term problem as they will quickly cease to exist. The trick is to do as little as possible so as to not stir up Nationalist feelings that the Mullahs can use to their advantage. We want to bloody their nose and start a revolution, force them to focus on internal problems and forget Iraq, Israel, etc. IMHO
" GWB will have zero support for any kind

no support for anything is right so he is free to do what needs to be done.
A large fraction of their oil production infrastructure is vulnerable to naval attack. Cut off their oil revenue and we have them by the short and curlies. Economically, things are pretty lousy in mullahland anyway, and it would take years to rebuild (if we let them). The price of oil on world markets would go way up (25-50% IMO). Iran's oil production is about 10% of the OPEC total btw. The rest of the world could take it, but Iran would be bankrupt.
Anyone know more about this? Story posted on Drudge:
"Iran shoots down U.S. spy drone amid growing military pressure"
Yeah I think it happened a few days ago. It's happened several times before. Those drones are vulnerable when spotted.
The CVNs will not enter the Persian Gulf. They're very capable and can launch strike aircraft from hundreds of miles away. They'll stay in the Arabian Sea, protected by rings of defensive ships and aircraft that would relish finding an Iranian coffin, er, submarine trying to approach. Like a big dog finding a toy.
Trust today's Navy to know what they're doing. They really don't want to lose a carrier!
Yes, not everyone in Iran is as crazy as Ahmanutjob. Many entities have a lot to lose if there is a military showdown with Israel and/or the US. The rumblings seem to indicate that a nice political coup could be in the works, lol.
True, but just maybe the in the first phase there will be a marine assault crossing of the straights of hormuz.
However I would imagine any operation to be strictly air based and large ground operations like that only coming into place based on how negative Iran's responce would be.
I don't underestimate our sub guys, I'm just pointing out the factors involved with tracking diesel boats in those waters. Boats on batteries are virtually impossible to detect passively, especially in shallow, busy waters.
Somewhere I heard, or read, marine landing ships are being moved into the area. The threat is oil interuption with 40% of the oil moving thru the strait.
Here, it has been awhile...

I think the US IS in serious immediate danger. Iran has made its intentions very clear - they are going to wipe Israel off the map and they are going to destroy Western civilization.
Adolph Hitler warned the world of his intentions and no one listened.
The world is once again turning a deaf ear. By the time people believe the threat is real - it will be way too late.
A Nazi concentration camp survivor gave this quote when asked if he had anything to say to the world:
"When someone tells you they are going to kill you - believe them."
I something happening with Paris, I must have missed it. Oh my...I MUST get the TV on E!. I cannot beleive I was actually sitting here while Paris was out doing something. Was it, like, something important?
//saracasm off. D'uh. (Just gotta make sure the world doesnt think I am a nut-job.
Please tell me the name of the Carrier in the photo. Thanks.
That's the USS Reagan. CVN 76.
thank you. It's quite something to behold.
There is a huge difference between invasion and tactical strikes on their nuclear research facilities.
US didn't invade Lybia in the 80s, but Quadaffi learned his lesson.
