Child pornography was found on the home computer of the hulking loner accused of kidnapping two St. Louis boys, law-enforcement sources said Sunday.
As a result, the feds are considering slapping Michael Devlin, 41, with child-porn charges, the sources said.
Devlin, a 300-pound pizza-parlor manager, was arrested Friday in the kidnapping of Shawn Hornbeck, 15, who was kept for four years, and William Ownby, 13, who was rescued after four days.

You can see the unpspoken shame and embarrassment in the older boy's gaze. He does not understand how vulnerable he was, to what extreme he was a manipulated victim not a participant and he feels his own sense of guilt for what happened. (he shouldn't, but he does)
He needs now and will need lots of help for a long time. After a few years with his perpatrator he had two possible futures waiting for him, if help did not arrive beforehand - one of constant self-destructive behavior, manifested at times in extreme rage (lashing out) and/or sucicde attmepts - from the erroneous guilt and shame he has acquired, or one of becoming just like his perp. He still has a high risk of self-destructive behavior if he cannot unlearn the guilt and shame.
So, you don't know or have a clue what Devlin has done? Your nor sure what he is guitly of? Let's see, he kidnapped two boys and held them hostage. Pretty clear to me and other's what that SOMETHING Devlin is guilty of!
They are not excuses. I was referring to the habit of the press of simply saying child porn was found on a computer. I have no doubt this guy is a pervert and had a collection of kiddie porn.

Your thesis marks in time what is becoming obvious for right-minded people. Something that has been in BLACK AND WHITE insofar as right vs. wrong, is now somehow in the gray area. But oh well, you know, what do we really know, we have to know the circumstances, the intent, blah, blah, blah. The arguments people like you put forth to justify what this man did, who won't come out and just say what they really mean. C'mon, this boy is GAY, right? He wanted this, just needed a little nudge to find his true identity. Won't be long before the NAMBLA club of perverts will be able to vomit this kind of twisted logic and make a go of putting up that piece of shit as a VICTIM

I applaude the parents for bring the boys to the news conference. The boys did absolutely nothing wrong, nothing to hide.
The same reason Elizabeth Smart didn't. They were still children when kidnapped and subject to psychological conditioning that would not work on an adult.
Child predators tend to pick their victims carefully. They seldom choose aggressively self-confident and outgoing kids. Likewise, a streetwise kid who has learned to negotiate and survive a drug and gang infested inner city culture is probably a bad bet.
But a shy, naive, dependent, unaggressive kid from a rural or suburban family and community? That's the child predator's natural target.
His perp is a manipulator, understands how psychologically vulnerable his victims are, and is so controlling he is able to as quickly as possible convince his victims that they are not victims but participants, with him. Yet, a deep small voice inside each victim knows something is wrong about that and they also feel guilty for their "participation". Guilt, shame, fear, lack of moral strength and lack of coping skills against the psychological manipulators. The victim's response seems irrational to us because we do not have their pschological vulnerability and are not living through a situation that is most accurately like a horrible dream with all the exits closed (the manipulated guilt and shame have closed them).
What is weird
I think back to age 11 and thought I would have called home and/or tried to escape, but I don't know, since it's still my adult mind trying to think as I did at age 11.
I read somewhere that he was told that his parents didn't want him anymore...that they'd given him away.
Also, once a kid's been molested, his misplaced guilt for having participated might make him think no one would want him anymore.
I understand that the psychology of this sort of thing is entirely complex. And we all know how screwy the thinking of a kid can be.
I agree and thought the news conferences were well done. Apparently the thinking was, let the media get their pictures in the controlled environment of the news conference instead of stalking the families for pictures. It was stated very clearly by the father of Shawn that there would be another news conference "when the time was right", but in the meantime he also made it clear that they were not to be disturbed as they try to find out what happened and get Shawn accustomed to be back with his family.

Don't you think the cops know the difference between cached data and purposefully downloaded info. Let me repeat: I have never received child porn from any venue. If you want child porn, you have to hunt it down.
exactly, i tried to do the same thing, but I think that it is highly possible I would have ended up just like Elizabeth Smart or Shawn Hornbeck.
