There's a simple reason the Washington establishment, Democrats, and the press hate President Bush's new strategy in Iraq: He spurned their advice. He ordered a troop increase, not the first phase of a withdrawal. He didn't echo Democrats like Senator Joe Biden and suggest the war in Iraq is lost. The thrust of his nationally televised speech last week was that we can still win. He mostly rejected the findings of the Iraq Study Group. And he refused--in fact, he's emphatically opposed--to engage Iran and Syria in talks. Nor did he go along with calls to abandon democracy as the fundamental goal of his foreign policy in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East.

Agreed
I think he is a wonderful CiC and I support him and pray for him daily.
BIG MISTAKE. Bring ORDER to the region. If "democracy" (and remember the US is NOT a "democracy") arises, it will be an internal process. It cannot be imposed from above.
I was thinking the exact same thing as I read the article.
The new phase of the war should include attacks on lefties where they live, under their rocks, in their caves.
I read that little Clinton News Network piece about the polling. MSNBC just said that 61% oppose the increase so there is barely a majority that opposes it and no where close to the 22% Truman approval for his Korea strategy.

Alone? Imagine 62,000,000 Bush voters.
thanks for the link.
I agree with the Copperhead statement, but US schools don't really teach US History, most have no idea that the Copperheads were Democrats who actively mounted an attempt to defeat Lincoln and the cause of the war by any means necessary. Way too much Copperhead in todays Democratic party.
I think that one can trace nearly every problem they are working on to a previous president's decision to cut and run. Afghanistan, Lebanon, Iraq and Somalia all show that pulling out when the going gets tough just leaves the problems to grow and fester for another day. Not only that, we got a rep for being unreliable allies and a paper tiger. Bush has led the Merry Maids to clean up our messes and restore honor and dignity to our foreign policy.
In the later stages of the war, black men were allowed to join the Union army, and those able to do so (that is, excluding slaves who were too far from the front lines to escape) probably fought and died at a higher rate than the white men of the Union states, but Lincoln never encouraged a slave uprising in the South and none occurred.
yup, that makes sense,
put your tail between your legs, run home and hide under the couch,.... maybe the problem will go away.... maybe it won't
there is a HUGE problem as it will follow you home and sit and wait at the front door....maybe it wont just sit and wait
remember that old classic? the big bad wolf?
They are just opening the door to more 9/11's. If their argument is loss of life today, the next 9/11 will be multiples of the original. George knows that.
I think that the troop increase is a great idea- it sends a message that the American will is not broken, despite the demoncrats getting elected. It will escalate some violence but it should hopefully inspire the Iraqis to arms!
The situation is now reversed--90% of the Democratic Party thinks the War on Terror is a fraud and if we would just be nice to the Muslims and change our foreign policy, we wouldn't have anything to fear from Islamic extremism. In fact, the real things they worry about are Bush opening their mail, Americans expressing anti-Muslim sentiments, or Christian conservatives threatening the right to an abortion or racial preferences.
The Democrats who take the war on terrorism seriously, like Lieberman or Morton Kondracke, are a small minority.
Same here and I am ashamed of my party for what their members are doing to him.
This conflict has degenerated into the left vs. George Bush, who has to beat both the Democrats and AQ to save America's future. The Democrats are so obsessed with the 2008 election they've lost sight of the battle against those who want to destroy us. If they win, they'll be busily protecting abortions and promoting gay marriage while dirty bombs are being assembled in our cities.
