Well if this is true that they called the police about screams then the Kirkwood police will have a internal investigation into why nothing was done by police. Most likely it will be up to Shawn's parents to push for investigation. The way I see it the police may be leaving out Geoff Hadler's version on purpose and then again their version might be the truth.
Back in the 90's I have a 7 day a week nightly route in the area and knew many of the cops there because I crossed their paths quite often every night on my route. The version I am getting is that Geoff Hadler is telling the truth about reporting the truck, but I have no idea about the calls into the station about screams over the past 4 years.
But if you want to believe them over the police, be my guest.
it really isn't a issue for me and I am not sure why it would be an issue for you. Like I said it will be up to the parents to push for an internal investigation. Personally I would since the Kirkwood police "stopped" Shawn several times out late at night and drove him home.
The woman said that they had called the police "hundred's of times" and then proceeded to say that they could NOT identify the right apartment.
The way I see it Kirkwood police dropped the ball several times while Shawn was right under their noses. Devlin was social with them because of his public job at a local eatery and this helped Devlin in the long run.
i don't, i believe the police.
i agree that many dropped the ball recovering Shawn and I think the reason why is most police assume that kids missing for years is a kid not coming home and not worth the time to keep looking at every situation when presented with eyes wide open. However, I think some of the people living in Devlin's apt. building may not be so honest.
I just got done watching the show. Shawn seemed to be very nervous and uneasy. Yet he was very articulate for his age and for what he has gone thru. I am not sure I liked some of Oprah's questions towards him. Some of her questions made me nervous!
I could not help but notice the clenched fists when Shawn hugged the police officers. He seemed to light up with the thought of getting back to a normal life. All I can say is his dad better start working on car transmissions with Shawn very very soon!
I just watched Oprah, and it was a tear-jerker! While Shawn sometimes smiles like a happy young man, he also looked like a boy who was traumatized and is still frightened. You can just tell that he has gone through hell. And he was not comfortable answering some of the questions, and declined to answer. This poor boy...May God bring him healing!
It was so heartwarming to see the two cops meet the parents and Shawn! They are heros. It was funny when the one officer described talking to Devil when Devil suddenly "went squirrely" on him, LOL!
The FBI guy had an incredible story of being abducted himself for just a few minutes, then he got away. And he didn't tell his mother about it for 50 years! He thought he had done something wrong, because he broke the rule about going with a stranger, so he never said anything to his mom until recently. That helps people understand why the boys didn't try to call home. Shawns parents said he told them he didn't call because he was terrified.
Here is what I just posted on another thread after watching her show:
I saw the show today and wanted to post my thoughts:
1. I think Oprah did a good job.
2. I think Shawn looked as well as a kid can look in his situation.
3. Shawn gave an answer that led me to believe that Ben was raped or somehow attacked, and also said something that made me believe he was too. The horrors that he faced made me bawl like a kid for a minute.
4. I think when Oprah came on the air and said that Shawn didn't call because he was terrified was to kind of tell all the "why didn't he run or call" crowd to f-off.
5. Shawn mouthing the words "thank you " to the cops who found him made me bawl.
6. I have never seen a teenager hug a man so hard as Shawn did to the policeman who found him.
7. The police said that Mitchell's description was unbelievable and they knew that this had to be the truck when they checked the truck with the description.
8. I am confident that I could/would never convict a family member who murdered a pedophile.
I am positive that Shawn was not the first boy Devlin took and his days were numbered. Devlin likes boys who have not matured physically, thus the replacement. Thank God Mitchell saw that truck and like a good rural boy even described the hitch on Devlin's truck for the cops. I pray that Shawn and Ben are able to take the stand, take their power back and look Devlin in the eye and put him away for life. I pray that with time God eases this from their minds and that they can have the lives that all kids dream about having when they grow up.
Oh, and Devlin's family releasing the statement to keep an open mind and not step on Devlin's constitutional rights made me furious. I was thinking how ironic it is that we have to watch out for the criminal's rights because for them to be a criminal means they most likely just took a $hit on someone else's constitutional rights. rant over
I, also, just watched the interview on "Oprah". I was struck by the fact that Shawn kept looking towards his step-father at every question. He seemed to have a stronger bond with his step-father than with his mother. Could be a "guy" thing. He was holding his Mother's hand through most of the interview.
Prayers for both of these boys and those who love them.
I never have watched Oprah until today. I think she was quite sensitive with her questions and demeanor.
That said, there are some answers that none of us need to know. These young boys and their families need privacy and time to work out a new life......and new wonderful memories.
I noticed that too, the way he was looking at his step dad. I realized later however he seemed to be sitting closer to his step dad than his mom. His mom was kind of sitting further back, so maybe that was the reason he kept looking at his step dad. It was just easier. However, I did notice he looked at his step dad with lots of love.
Did you notice how Pam looked in the studio. I loved the red dress, the makeup and the hair. She looked wonderful. She did not look so "sad", which I believe is healthy for Shawn to see.
Cliff Van Zandt ( I believe that is his name) was powerful today. I hope BOR was watching.
The statement from the Devlin family that Oprah read at the end, was bizarre and sickening. It infuriated me.
I Saw an interview on the computer where a radio station gave Mitchell 1000.00
I Would like to know if I could send ( Ben's schoolmate who gave the description of the truck Mitchell money , )on the video Mitchell's Truck window was a box or something .
I Also believe Shawn let on that poor Ben was raped by that skumbag !
I Think he put Shawn through hell !
Last year Oprah was giving $100K to people who gave tips that led to arrests of the FBI's most wanted pedophiles that went AWOL. I wish she would give Mitchell the money because this guy was one of the worst, nobody knew it and Mitchell's description of the truck saved Ben (imo) years of torture and Shawn's imminent demise.
It cheeses me off that people are second guessing a kid who has been through trauma that we couldn't imagine in our worst nightmare. Abused women don't leave, POW's cave, yet people expect a child to be able to do things that too many adults wouldn't be able to do themselves and just hang themselves to end it.
I think Shawn was a replacement and probably witnessed what happened to the previous boy when he was no longer needed. Though, I'm sure he was led to believe that the kid called home or something. Not to mention that Devlin probably watched the search for Shawn and knew all of Shawn's family members by name going so far as to tell him what he would do to Shawn's family if he ever left, etc.
i watched it as well and got pretty much the same thing from seeing Shawn today on Oprah as everyone else did.
When he said thank you to the offiers I wanted to cry. I saw that Shawn was definately still a boy and it broke my heart his innocence is lost.
I believe Shawn was looking at his dad more than his mom to get some answers on how to respond. His dad probably said to look at him to get help understanding questions and I think also it just shows what a healthy relationship they had before Shawn was abducted and even now.
I hope this family stay in tact for the rest of their lives and that Shawn is able to return to a normal life and put this horrible past 4 years away for good.
I think there were other kids before Shawn and Shawn may know something about them, but if not I think there still was other kids taken and that Devlin did something with them.
I Wish That Too ....
While on the computer I Clicked a link & saw some reporters interviewing Mitchell . They showed Mitchell's truck & it doesn't even work :(
Mitchell's car window had cardboard or wood on it .
I wish i knew a way to send Mitchell some money !
Mitchell Loves Cars & Trucks that's why he was able to give such a great description !
I really wish he could get a brand new truck he deserves it !
God rest their souls.
