Explosions Rocks U.S. Embassy in Athens

ATHENS, Greece - Police cordoned off streets around the U.S. Embassy in Athens early Friday after an explosion inside the embassy compound.
Authorities searched nearby apartment buildings and a hospital amid reports that an explosive device may have been fired at the building. The blast smashed glass in the front of the building, near the U.S. emblem of the embassy.
"I heard a loud bang I didn't realize what was going on," said Giorgos Yiannoulis, who runs a kiosk near the embassy.

Hate to say but Fox is botching the reporting.
They have MSM style generic reporting, they need to turn the camera AROUND.
Show the street!
Show how it is a crowded street and narrow.
This is the same street as the Megaro Musico (think Kennedy Center for Performing arts) and the same street on the side of the constitution square and govermnet building.
The actual front door is a literal fortress gate. Like a vault door.
Generally, you have LONG LONG lines of people applying for their visitor and tourist visas (less than 2% rejection rate). Personally saw the process people go through this.
I think it was done to disrupt that.
The fox reporter was also probably botching the name of the group. It was probably the Nov. 17.

Apparently they successfully attacked a 3rd floor toilet. On the face of it, one could think it almost farcical. However, my interpretation is that non-Muslim terrorists (aligned with the anti-globalization communist movements of Europe) are (re-)adopting the modus operandi of out islamic friends. When anarchists and commies start to adopt the tactics of jihadis, there is reason for concern. There are pro-jihadi radical leftists in every Western country, as we all know. (Sorry if I have lumped all radical leftist commies with the same brush.)
The group that claimed credit is Revolutionary Struggle.
I think the "unification" of these groups - Muslim and leftist extremists - is one of the biggest things to worry about. It is known that there have been contacts between ETA and the jihadis in Spain (and that ETA was probably involved, at least from a supply and training point of view, in the March 11 bombing) and these groups have a long track record of supporting each other. But I think they haven't quite united their forces yet, although ideologically they seem to find no conflict between authoritarian Islam and authoritarian Marxism, so it's probably only a matter of time.
I haven't heard that announcement yet.
Many are saying it could be an extreme group called November 17(?) that's been in Greece for some time....or the work of terrorists.

Reporters reporting it is the same as the type of rockets used by the Nov 17.

Said the rockets used by Nov. 17 were stolen and were generally defective due to mosture damage.
Also today there were meetings with the ambasador and the foreign minister Dora Bacogianis (used to be mayor of athens during the 2004 olympics, she gave an excellent press conference on Cspan on pre-2004 olympics)

Rocket hit the marble to the far upper left of the US Embassy symbol. not even hit.
It then bounce and broke a window.

Today was a meeting on the FYROM question with the skopian debate in the balkans. Any number of groups who don't want the greeks and the americans talking or on friendly terms. (Greece has the largest military in the area)
If AP has said nothing it would have more complete reporting.

The main people were arrested in 2003-4.
Does not discount the fact that the stach of rockets they had and used found their way to former yougoslavians, albanians, or kosovo moslems.
In Greece they are often refered to as the gang who could not shoot straight. (consider the american born Animal Liberation Front is more effective)
The bottom picture does not show the point where the rocket apparently hit.
if you follow the column to the cross section and a little to the right there is apparent burn area where the rocket bounced (did not detonate) and the went into the window.
I just love the way that cnn.com reports on the story. Halfway down the article they have big bold letters saying "Student Uprising" to suggest that that's going on now and part of this attack. However, if you read further down you see that this refers to a student uprising that occurred in 1973.
I think you just nailed it.
Pelosi and Reid (and Ted Kennedy's GLOBALLY PLAYED missive to surrender) comments have been evaluated and interprited as weakness.
Greek TV is discussing the bilateral meetins which are scheduled for today between the ambasador and foreign minister.
Oh well, but it's still a beautiful country. They're nice people, too, just don't take their political views too seriously ;-)

The meetings scheduled for the day are going to go forward.
