That will teach me to not consider McCain's people like I do the Clintonites. That must mean the McCain folks were also following Rudy around during the election cycle. I have a call in now to someone I trust to verify that. When I made my first call I never thought to include McCain. But then I am not sure that McCain's people and the Clintonites don't cross paths from time to time.

One page in the document, according to The News, notes that he might “drop out of [the] race” as a result of “insurmountable” personal and political concerns. On this page, The News says, is a list of bullet points that seem to highlight those concerns: His consulting practice; Mr. Kerik; Ms. Hanover; his third and current wife, Judith Nathan Giuliani; and “social issues,” apparently a reference to his support for abortion rights, gay civil unions and gun control, all of which are opposed by some Republicans.

Ms. Mindel, the Giuliani spokeswoman, issued a statement this afternoon that sought to explain how the document was leaked. During one trip by Mr. Giuliani and aides on a private plane this fall, she said, all luggage was removed from the plane and later returned, but one bag was not. After a few days, the bag was returned with the document inside.

“Because our staffer had custody of this document at all times except for this one occasion, it is clear that the document was removed from the luggage and photocopied,” Ms. Mindel said in the statement.

“Voters are sick and tired of dirty tricks,” she added. “They are interested in substantive issues and want leaders like Rudy who are as well.”

According to Giuliani advisers, the document was essentially a notebook compiled and belonging to a single staff member; they disputed that it was an official dossier that all Giuliani political aides shared.
