WASHINGTON Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.
As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

I don't mind not having mail today nearly as much as I will in a couple of weeks on MLK's birthday.
Relax, Fawn. A national day of mourning for all former Presidents is protocol.
I onyx....I'm late to the thread...overslept...

Considering that you are playing on the internet, looks to me like you are one of those who gets paid while NOT working.
nope, no one day off for gov't workers for a funeral of a former president is on my list of things to go spastic over:)
I wonder how many Federal employees said "OH CRAP--that means we get a day off" when Prez Ford passed away. If they wanted to really HONOR him....they'd work twice as hard.
My office is open too, and I am there, and I appreciate that some people in this country still understand protocol. I take it that's not the field in which your job lies. ;-D
I need glasses! BelaPelosi is wearing POP BEADS too?I hope they're both carrying a hard plastic purse that resembles a lunchbox? I recall the two went together.
Isn't he suppose to speak today? Wonder how he will bash President Bush at this funeral.
LOL!!!
My office is open and here I sit... typing on FR with T.V. on. I forgot to put out my flag this monring.
(If you don't believe me, just think of how many times in the past 40 years that the Camelot legacy has been on TV.)

When the truth is that he has done no such thing...but that won't stop the haters.
He acted like it was silly and gave Carter a complete pass that he has been a tad outspoken...to say the least...I'll shut up about it now and watch the ceremony.
Everyone is an expert on what everyone else should do. (not saying that about you at all).
Don't you find the music gorgeous?
This music is making me cry.
I'm on break. I was here at work early today too.
I wonder if there are some younger Freepers who are thinking, "What the heck are POP beads?"
