WASHINGTON Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.
As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

Yes! Dean and Frank too. All "good Catholic boys" ya know?
Lynn Cheney is just about the only woman who could follow the absolute class act that is Laura Bush. I hope the Vice President considers that as well.
That is encouraging. I would like to go forward as it is the heart of the Mass.
Hi DeeJay, I have been watching Fox (FNC).
I think I heard this. lol
It is my fervent wish also that Dick Cheney have a long, happy, and most importantly, an uneventful retirement.
LoL...:)
Meant to add, cspan isn't showing the funeral
on their web site either.
Hi there, Howlin. How the heck are you? :)
Weddings as far back as I can remember were held in the Bethlehem Chapel under the nave. My own sainted husband was married there first go-round (1963), as was his brother and sister in law. We can't remember a single wedding being held in the nave itself. Not that it couldn't have happened but it sure isn't de rigeur.
"how classy Mrs Ford looks in her gold necklace - her brooch is very attractive"
Do you know the significance of the brooch that Mrs. Ford and Susan are wearing? (See photo # 439)
Of course *L*
Well ... I need to head out now
I have to climb out on the roof to take down some christmas lights
groan
oh, no question, the Bethlehem Chapel is beautiful, it's just not the nave where Reagan and Ford funerals were held. We've been trying to think of a wedding that's been held in the nave and are coming up short.
I like your caption, Norm.
Alternative caption for that great picture: "Thanks so much for passing the *nearsighted* gene along to me, Dad!"
Yikes! Be careful, Mo, and thanks for the thread!!!
Actually Kelly O'Donnell on NBC mentioned the White House visit by the Ford children and grandchildren quite respectfully. I was pleasantly surprised by their coverage. I watched live on a non-cable TV.
Geeeez. Have they gone completely democrat?
You don't have to apologize for anything. :)
Thanks. I've been to one there, but it may have been because of Who She Was; I had assumed it was for everyone if they could get it scheduled (it would take years!).
