Broncos right cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed this morning. After leaving a nightclub in a limousine, Williams was shot and killed near 11th and Grant in Denver. The team confirmed the death of Williams. A female passenger also was shot, according to a source familiar with Williams.
Williams was 24.
"I learned from the Denver Police Deprtment that this incident has occured," Williams' agent, Jeff Griffin said early Monday morning. "No other details have been released. I sincerely offer my condolences and feelings to his family."
Williams was the Broncos' starting right cornerback and played his final game for the team in a 26-23 overtime loss to the San Francisco 49ers that eliminated Denver from the playoffs on New Year's Eve.
This is such a shock. This is horrible. I watched my Broncos piss away their playoff hopes last night, and have not looked at the morning paper or any other news sources since. I'm floored.
Prayers for Darrent's family. He'll be missed by all.
:-(
Same thought occurred to me....Perhaps he played a little too well and the numbers weren't there. Williams left the came in the second half with an shoulder injury but shows up in a club for party time.
Gamblers wouldn't use a method this crude though. They are more into bombs and one in the head...
This smells like gang activity. Williams had some gang back ground and was talking about going back to his home to work with local youths about staying out of gangs.
Wow. Must be scary for folks who would normally feel safe in downtown.
'After midnite, only pimps, whores and thieves were out."
Musicians and cops too! I can't tell you how many times I've been stopped or stuck at a DUI roadblock! No citations, ,,,,,,,,,,
IMO, machismo+alcohol related.
And now I'm hearing the other guy in the car was
Javon Walker and also hit with a bullet.
He went to high school in Fort Worth, TX. When he was announced he said his high school instead of college like some players do and I was like "wow he's from Fort Worth that's cool" so I kinda rooted for him. It's really sad.
Must've been NY cops on vacation in Denver in an unmarked stakeout confusing him for a groom at his bachelor's party,...where's Al Sharpton?
I'm in a state of shock. I wonder why someone loses a game like that, when a 13-0 lead is blown and you miss the playoffs, probably sore all over from hitting people, that you still feel like going clubbing that night.
It's very sad that the last day of someone's life goes down like that.
I feel sorry for his family and his teammates. That's a really tough blow to take to start the year.
Condolences to you as a Raiders fan.
I attended a Suns vs. Bobcats game about a month ago. It was like watching a professional team run over a good high school team. I'm hoping my local team can pull it together in a few years.
I don't know how much of a thug this guy was, but if you look like a duck and act like a duck, you're going to get shot like a duck.
What about the other two hours? Slacker.
Fools who watch it ruined it as well.
Not the prior, but am certainly the latter!
; < )
But this cannot have happened. Denver is a "home rule" city and guns are strictly regulated, even banned to a certain extent. Aren't they? Look for them to try and make drive by shootings even MORE illegal by outlawing ALL firearms. Even from cops.
That'll show 'em...
