She is out of the country leading the Democrat delegation to the funeral for Saddam Hussein.

It was likely because he knew he'd never been elected to either of the two highest offices in the land. That doesn't mean he wasn't qualified for them, he just knew that he hadn't been chosen by a majority of the voters, in either case, so he didn't act like he had.

I was just an Army SGT at the White House when President Ford was there. When we passed by he would usually nod or throw a good morning my way. Carter never did. It was an honor just to hold an umbrella over The President or Mrs Ford. They were just common, good people.

There is just something proper about Hastert still being the Speaker to give President Ford an official eulogy -- beautiful tributes by both him and VP Cheney.
