The North Carolina bar filed an ethics complaint Thursday against the prosecutor in the Duke lacrosse case, accusing him of breaking four rules of professional conduct when speaking to the reporters about the sensational case. The punishment for ethics violations can range from admonishment to disbarment.
Among the rules District Attorney Mike Nifong was accused of violating was a prohibition against making comments "that have a substantial likelihood of heightening public comdemnation of the accuser."
In a statement, the bar said it opened a case against Nifong in March 30, a little more than two weeks after the party where a 28-year-old student at North Carolina Central University hired to perform as a stripper said she was raped.
Nifong did not immediately return a call for comment.
Nor did defense attorney Joseph Cheshire, who represents one of the three lacrosse players charged with sexual offense and kidnapping.
Last week, Nifong dropped the rape charges against the three athletes after the stripper wavered in her story.
There were four complaints. I thought this was one of them. The one the MSM has the jitters about because of the ick factor involves his belated attempt to introduce ~swoon~ condoms into the story when no DNA was found.
That's what I'm wondering, mew; I mean, if he will do this to rich boys, imagine what he's done to poor kids or adults unable to fight back.
I wish I thought the outrage over this case would keep the Bar from covering this up.
What will be amusing in the end...is that this guy's legal career...was destroyed by a stripper...that he didn't even pay to strip or witness the strip. That will be the darkest moment of this entire episode. The stripper can never be punished...she walks away eventually with just a history tied to her name. This idiot...has no virtual career left...and will have to rebuild from scratch...if they disbar him. My best guess is that they will demand a 1-year suspension...which takes him off the case automatically.
freudian slip.
He did it to lock in black support for this election. There's no political value in busting poor people. You bust them to keep your numbers up, but don't stress the ethnicity.
"this guy's legal career...was destroyed by a stripper..'
I don't think so. The fact he put off interviewing the stripper for months showed he didn't particularly believe her, but wanted to hold her credibility off until after the election. The third attempt at getting an ID of the accused, where they only included team player pictures, gave the game away. He knew early on there was no criminal case here, but rode it for political reasons. Heck, it worked for Al Sharpton.
The stripper didn't destroy Nifong's career, he did.
I would imagine they have to try him before they can ask for him to be removed, right?
Yep. 'Saviour of the downtrodden' striking back at the 'rich white boy overseers/abusers'--race/class baiting gig all the way.
So trite it could be a carriacture.
Bet it got him votes, too.
Well, some defense lawyers ought to be looking at past cases with a fine toothed comb, just in case Nifong and/or Meehan have done this before.
