Mohammed, and its most common alternative spelling Muhammad, are now more popular babies' names in England and Wales than George, reflecting the diverse ethnic mix of the population. How does the prevalence of one name imply 'diversity'? I'm sure Mohammeds outnumber Georges in Tehran, too, but that doesn't reflect a "diverse ethnic mix."

Don't feel too bad. Jose is the most popular boy's name in Texas.

Muhammad Jones. Doesn't have the same Celtic quality as Ifor, Dilwyn, Huw or Ioan.

There were 38 babies called Cruz (after David Beckham's third child) this year, raising the name from 1,508th to 650th. There were 14 Peaches (after the daughter of Bob Geldof), raising that name from 4,509th to 1,561st.

What is it with people who think it is a good idea to name their own very special baby after some stupid celebrity's kid?

Yo, my British friends, start having a lot more babies, or you will soon be outproduced by the nonassimilating newcomers.

The Office for National Statistics said there were 2,833 baby boys called Mohammed in 2006. How many names for boys are available to the followers of the "religion of peace"?

Some do it for the attention.
Frank Zappa had 'Dweezil' and ' moon unit', so it's been going on for a while with these odd names if you want to call them that.
The case of the Muslims is a little different, it's a reflection of the quantity of Muslims and their children.
